I would definitely recommend an egr delete and an elephant mod ( crank case ventilation vented to atmosphere instead of intake) to increase the longevity of your diesel

@Mo bear google 1.9 TDI elephant mod. It's basically rerouting the engine crankcase ventilation to vent to the Atmosphere instead of into the intake. The Crank case Ventilation normally makes the engine breathe hot water vapours and oils and when this is mixed with carbon from the egr it creates a sticky tar in the intake. So by deleting it your engine will breathe clean fresh cold air that doesn't have any oily vapours in it. Venting the crankcase to the atmosphere may be an mot fail so do watch out for that. But it's not polluting it's mostly water vapour. All hgvs vent to atmosphere.

Good question to which I don't know, could be 43.5mm dia and 3-5mm thick, but may not be!?. You have to make sure to order one for your exact car model as they differ and I don't want to give you the wrong size. Take the O ring out then measure it so you know roughly the size then search online for a part number and size that is the same. I've lost my data on Skoda Fabia so can't be sure, sorry.

On my Fabia, which is also a 1.9 TDI PD 74kW, the butterfly valve is different, it has a housing which is bulky and therefore the screws for the return pipe are super hard to get. Very annoying 😤 Edit: My Fabia being one of the last to come off the assembly lines (2007) is fitted with an EGR like the one on Golf 5 1.9TDI. It turns out that the EGR splits into two parts, first the intercooler flap comes off, then the EGR, but before that you have to disconnect the return pipe as in this video, which is easier after removing the first half. Hope this helps someone 😁

Another great video, unfortunately I hit a hurdle of the manifold pipe being bolted to the back of the intake and this being covered by the air intake (post air filter), which I found impossible to unbolt. Tried cleaning in position but couldn't bolt back together as the manifold didn't have enough movement. Ended up swearing a lot but finally got it all apart and back together. Unfortunately EML light back on after 30 miles 😕

Hi Harvey, good & useful stuff you have here! Have you had any issues with power windows? My front door power windows suddenly decided to do anything anymore :( Luckily they positioned up right now... I have changed the driver side switch box 6 months ago and windows were working fine.
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 3 жыл бұрын
Damp weather affects these electricals. Mine used to get this from time to time mainly if I don't use the car for some time. you are right to change the switch as this is a usual suspect. The wires and connections behind the bellows going into the door are another. If water is getting into foot-wells, this will affect the connections. Also check the motor control unit for power and test independently if you can.

Yours may be a bit different, but they design them not to be tampered with, so expect a difficult bolt to put you off. No worries, it can be done with persistence and small tools. If the difficult bolt is like mine then follow the video, I can't remember what the 1.4 egr is like.

Hi how are you Harvey. Just subscribed your channel lol. I have an audi a3 tdi 1.9tdi 55 red I think its a pd engine I have an oil leak on my car which is coming down from the rear top of the engine. The problem is that I have taken the entire egr valve off once or twice just to monitor where the oil is coming from. However all attmepts have been failed so far just because of the big intake black pipe just behind the egr that goes down and attaches to the turbo. There is a big clip on it. There is no room to take this clip off. Unless I unclip this pipe from the bottom where it is attached to the turbo I Will not be able to see the oil leak. My idea was to take this pipe off give the rear of the engine or manifold a good wash with brake cleaner and then put everything back together drive the car again with high revs and inspect everything again doing the same exercise of taking egr off again. Hence just beacuse of that intake pipe. I have been utterly failed. I bought a special long reach hose clamp plier in order to unclip the pipe from turbo but to no avail. Sure I am doing something wrong. This pipe does come off. I have been under the engine too jacking the car up on jack stands as high as possible but that didnt help either. The only thing I could think of was removing the drive shaft driver side but that didn't look feaseable either as the clip is on top of the pipe and didnt provide enough space for my hand. I suspect its either the the corner of the head gasket is leaking or it could be the brake pump seals that may have perished. Either way the only solution for me as a diy guy is to take that piece of intake pipe off first of all. Your advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you, I'll have a look and get back to you. First thought was turbo oil feed pipe connections or just the rocker cover gasket or crank case breather. The clips are a pig I'm told?

1.4TDi AMF 55kW (2004) has the exactly same EGR, which is odd since when i look at the parts list is should be different. Maybe in 2003 they had same EGRs after 2005 the 1.4TDi AMF went out of production and instead the 51kw and 59kw versions were introduced, around the same time some changes were made to the 1.9 TDi. And they use different EGR and hose setup. Also i am pretty sure the ,,butterfly clapper valve" does nothing durring the normal operation, it should be there only to shut off engine quietly. I had broken vaccum pump on my 1.4TDi and apart from brakes not working correctly and turbo engaging late nothing changed about the engine, if this clappe is somehow intended to regulate airflow to engine durring normal operation its failure sure would cause something serious, but as a matter of fact it didnt. Also also most diesels dont restrict air intake with clappes like gasoline engines.
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the AMF engine does seem to have the same valve arrangment others don't, Thank you for sharing, missed that. The flapper helps regulate the fuel air ratio creating turbulance to improve emissions and toque at low engine speeds. The valve is closed at idle and fully open at around 2000rpm.
@rastislavstraka8107
@rastislavstraka8107 3 жыл бұрын
@@HatBoyHarvey I am 100% sure flapper can only be closed or opened. And when it is closed engine will stop, you can try closing it manually when engine runs. This is one of the failure points on these engines when this flapper gets stuck closed engine will not even start or start only for couple revolutions. Also there is no duty cycle parameter for this valve in engine ECU to indicate how much it should be opened or closed, like there is for EGR and turbo valves on vacuum box.

Certain later Fabia's had a similar set up, but the Egr was separate to the throttle body, which was electronically controlled. Using a similar procedure you can remove and clean both the Egr and throttle body at the same time.

Hi, could be a number of things. First look for any obvious things like lights on dash, fuses, electrical or vacuum connections in engine bay disconnected or loose. If you have had the EGR off, Have you cleaned it properly and made sure the flap is working. Were the inlet ports caked up also? crank case breather clear? Battery OK? Airbox fully sealed? any misfire? any water in oil? using water? oil level OK and changed regularly etc etc
