This is Skoda Kodiaq with a Q. It takes its name from an Alaskan brown bear. We are all familiar with Grizzly bears, which compared to Kodiak (with a K) are like teddy bears. Kodiak can be up to twice as heavy as he Grizzly, and can be be much larger. As it’s name suggests, Skoda Kodiaq is the biggest, costs less than the competition, from which it is larger, it can have equipment like on premium cars, from which it is larger. However there are cars of size similar to Kodiaq with larger boots, longer wheelbase, longer body, have more equipment as standard.

I'm following your channel for 2 years now - you were great at the start, but now this is just outstanding. Very impressive camera works - nice composition and you always find some crazy fun stuff to spice up the show :D Keep up the great work!

You must be the only reviewer to give a negative review. You also compare it to a disco sport and BMW X3. How about like for like. A full optioned Kodiaq, at least in Australia is $62000. The equivalent disco sport would be $30000 more, and I’m not actually sure you could get all those options. The X3 is even more.

Lost of people do the swinging the foot around motion to open the boot but in reality it’s a kick motion which is required. Notice how when you do the kick the system always works.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know. And probably people, who own the car know where to kick. The problem with car journalists is that they switch cars 1-2 times a week, and depending on the car sensors are a bit to the left or a bit to the right, and we never know, where to kick. I only remember Ford Edge, where the boot opening sensor is under the left parking sensor. I also recently tested a car (I don't remember what it was), where the boot opened every time I wiped dust off the bumper.

Marek Drives So then be honest in the review and say, that you forget sometimes what you have to do, because you drive so many cars with different operating systems or even better prepare for the review and don't criticize a car for your lack of knowledge how stuff works. But even worse is, that I think you knew exactly how it operates, you just had to make something up to complain about, as if you can't make a video with objective criticism. And one last thing. Car companies build cars for their customers not car journalists, otherwise every car would be practically the same, just so you wouldn't have to learn about how everything works, but then you would have no job and us customers no choice. Find another job, if you don't have any passion for this one anymore.

Hi Marek, Love your reviews. I know it s a long shot to get an answer but do you thinks the Kodiaq 1.5 TSI DSG is an ok combination for mainly long roads? I know the diesel is the better option but it s out of my budget and all the Skoda dealers in my country say it s not worth the money unless you're a 60 year old dude that likes to drive slow. We are 3 and hoping to expand to a 4 members family. Thanks in advance. Kind regards

I like Kodiaq, I hired a SEAT Alhambra 2.0TDI Xcellence DSG I experienced 3sec delays at roundabouts,junctions&while parking. Engine didn't stall&Autohold was off. So I'd go for VAG Manual.

That's a different story. LRDS is more expensive, than the Kodiaq, but Kodiaq is so expensive with options, that premium brands appear on the radar. As far as I'm concerned Kodiaq works only with 1.4 TSI FWD MT with 3rd row of seats. Maybe sat nav and keyless entry as options. Anything more is too expensive for a value-for-money brand.
@abalogh
@abalogh 7 жыл бұрын
Marek Drives No need to add extras one-by-one, there are 3 level base packages and add whatever you still miss. Satnav is totally forgetable with nowadays smartphones, just a waste of 1000 eur. Similarly equipped X3 is at least 30-50% more expensive...

This is why you always buy the base and if the base can't be configured to what you need with a couple of options, it is not a car for you. Never ever fall into a trap of thinking that you need to add this or add that, because you'll easily be in a class above. At 40 grand there is no question - C class wagon, x3, 3 series wagon... are all much more enjoyable.

Why isn’t the 2.0 TDI 150PS 4x4 7 seater *manual* version of the Kodiaq certified for towing like its DSG equivalent? How come Škoda decided NOT to approve that version of the Kodiaq for towing? 🤔

the car is good if you need the space. fully loaded with options is a great car, but it gets pricey and in the end you'll be better off with the Tiguan Allspace, because that looks better and you can get the 240hp diesel and active info display.

Did I read somewhere that if you have 7 seats you cannot have a towbar? I get the feeling we are being ripped off with prices these days. Basic is very good, then add a few items and.... ?

I've just run the Polish configurator. You can have both - tow bar and 3rd row of seats - even with 1.4 TSI 125 hp. Perhaps there is some local restriction on your market resulting from emission regulations? Where are you from?

RR will set you back as much, as you want. I guess anything from 300k euro upwards. Many objects (not necessarily cars) are made to look expensive. This is what attracts people to them. Only later they are disappointed, when it turns out it's a cheap peace of glossy plastic.

Thanks Marek for the first review of the Kodiaq that is close to my own test drive of this car. I was disapointed after trying the 190ps version, mainly due to a light and non informative steering, uncomfortable seats and totaly lack of driving fun. One strange thing. I felt a kind of wobbling or vibrations in the chassis when drining (slow) over road bumps and on rather bad roads here in Norway. This supriced me since this is car is based on the rather new plattform from VW group. I felt the suspension is not close to the best in this segment, not to mention the premium segment. So for my part the Kodiaq is out of my shortlist for new car next year. PS. Currently driving a 2015 Nissan X Trail awd.

Not sure how your price comparisons work out, in the UK there's a massive difference between the Kodiaq and the X3 for s similar spec.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 5 жыл бұрын
In 2017, when this review was filmed, we still had the previous generation X3, which probably started around 35-40k euro. I never said "in similar spec", because obviously that's impossible. I said this Kodiaq cost around 50k euro, and there was room for even more options. So if we assume the X3 started at 40k, you could have driven off in a car with a more desirable badge, and by no means in poor man's spec. If we get into technicalities, yes - one is looking for a 7-seater Kodiaq not for brand appeal, but for practicality, in which case the X3 is not a competitor.
@PeterPete37
@PeterPete37 7 жыл бұрын
Believe this is the same car as the VW Atlas in USA. Comes with a 2.0 TSI or a 3.6 VR6. VWs built to a different (cheaper) spec here so might make sense why its badged as a Skoda in Europe.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 7 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say what Atlas is. For Europe we'll soon get a 7-seater Tiguan, which will compete directly against the Kodiaq. Meanwhile SEAT (another VW Group brand you don't get Stateside) has the Ateca, which is basically Tiguan. And Skoda is launching the Karoq, which is a smaller Kodiaq. Point of it all eludes me.
