The Builder Blog flies over to Austin Texas with Skorpios as we fight robots at South By Southwest in partnership with the US Army! #battlebots #blog #army
Today's episode is a unique event we have been invited to: South By Southwest in Austin Texas! Battlebots and the U.S. Army have teamed together to host Robot Fighting Events as well as Meet and Greets with Witch Doctor, Hypershock, and Skorpios! Botbash was also invited to bring down multiple arenas and robots for convention goers to get a HANDS ON experience fighting robots!
We will have plenty of crossover events coming with some special guests we met at the event, so STAY TUNED!
Would you like to fight robots yourself? Bot Bash Party brings the robot fighting directly to you! We do parties and corporate events for ages 8 and up. Located in Lafayette, CA, Bot Bash can provide our services from the Northern Sacramento region down to San Jose. They say "never meet your heroes", and now I know why: Because you'll find out they're even cooler in person and end up loving them even more! It was great seeing you and the other teams. You do amazing outreach for the sport and inspire the next generation, which I'm sure you know but I'm just confirming from one 7yo example. Thanks! ;)

This seems like a strong case for bringing back lower weight classes in the actual show.

With that awesome arena now I kinda want to see all the teams make smaller versions of their HW bots. A lot of teams already have feather/hobby versions of their heavyweight designs (think of MegaTRON, Touro Feather, Lil Rip, Red Storm, Kablooey Tango, Knock-off White, but also Emusifier starting out as a 30lbser etc), but honestly all I want to see is a lightweight Gigabyte be a ziggo-like angry wok thrashing everything: the current heavyweight arena isn't really conducive to full body spinners but a simpler relatively bigger arena like they set up here would probably help it along a bunch.

@@bami2 My impression from the stands was that this arena was relatively a lot smaller than the Battlebox. Not terribly spacious at all for 15lbers. Not that they couldn't build a bigger one, but for this one portability is a factor. The event was titled BattleBots Metal Mayhem, but there was "Battlebots League" branding around the box too, and repeated mentions by Faruq that this was "The first Battlebots League event". So while I expect the show to stick with one weightclass and that to be heavies, I think they may be planning to do more of these smaller events!

@@wyrmh0le No you're correct, I meant it more to see light and middleweights back in the full 48x48ft arena since they now have it available for robot combat all the time and don't have to build it up and break it down again, robogames have shown us that it's no problem to have middleweights or even lightweights in a 40x40ft arena, but they don't have the shelf eating up a ton of space.

It was so cool to meet y'all, I was so nervous when I came up to you guys but it was totally worth it. Had a blast battling Zach with a banana hammer so much I forgot the point was to knock out the robot and felt bad when I broke one lol

I was there with Placer Robotics! Such a great experience, so much fun. I regret not going over to your area though, too busy with the bot, but I’m glad to see a few of my friends make it in the vid! The blue and yellow sweater is one of my teammates and builder/driver of dishwasher, the gold beater bar in one of the first fight clips.

Okay, I am SO MAD I missed this!! I'm a freaking Texan and used to live in the Austin area, but didn't know about this! I'm not in that area anymore, but still...I could've gotten time off work to see this!...Maybe. Tbh, idk if I would've been able to have time off now, along with a couple weeks later for when I move to my own place.

@@gingerhippygaming7962 it hasn't been cancelled or anything, there are just so many internal disputes that preventing s8 from happening for now. It was supposed to film last fall but the Las Vegas F1 racing event delayed it, and then the writers strike and merger of warner brothers and discovery made it all a mess. Manta has been a confirmed bot for s8 so that means s8 was planned and could still be a thing. We waited 2 years for s3 and s5 was delayed for a few months, I'm sure s8 will come no matter how long we wait. do not lose hope

I liked this video, but was the army segment really necessary? You really went out of your way to showcase them. C'mon, keep that stuff out of this beautiful sport. We don't need any of that in this sport, that's not what this sport is about.

The Army payed for the whole thing Without them there would be no event. The sponsor need to feel like they got the exposure they wanted in order to have them continue to sponsor events.

@@SkorpiosBattlebot Yeah that was already said in the video. It didn't need that much exposure, especially in a sport that aims toward friendship, sportmanship, collaboration and is filled with naive, conditionable children.
