Sky Television starts the day in 1987 with two distinct start-up sequences and a visit to that awful DJ Kat.
We've slightly censored the opening to allow for how 2015's mores are oddly much more restrictive than those of 1987.

Sky One was a channel to watch in the mid 90's as was MTV. Now neither one is worth the effort.

This brings back memories of watch UK cable when I was a kid. Loved Fun Factory and the morning cartoons. TV isn't the same.

It started off as a cable exclusive channel encoded in Oak Orion scrambling distributed via satellite to cable systems all over Europe then eventually dropped the scrambling to go PAL Clear, and when they did they gained an audience of more direct to home satellite dish owners with expensive motorised satellite dish / receiver systems. They transmitted stereo sound 7.02 / 7.20 MHz using Wegener Panda 1 noise reduction as well as mono 6.50 MHz. You could also listen to Sky Radio in stereo on 7.38 / 7.56 MHz via the same channel and it sounded fantastic with the cd quality sound.

@@rogerdarthwell5393 Sky Radio was a non-stop cd quality music radio station broadcast in stereo all over Europe via satellite.

@@rogerdarthwell5393 started in the eighties and is still on air via Astra 1 at 19.2E in digital form all over Europe

Like this Sky Startup tune "Triumph"! Heard, listened and sang this one every Saturday and Sunday at 8AM! Used to watch Fun Factory till noon (E)! Was 6 years old! Good times...! F*cking awesome how DJ Kat shows that drawing by Jacqueline from Weesp (a Dutch village between Amsterdam and Hilversum (Dutch Media Town))! Live in Zaandam; A village in the surrounding area of Amsterdam (Albert Heijn Headquarters)! The Dutch DJ Kat sidekick, Linda de Mol, still in observation on Dutch television and in her own female magazine, LINDA.!

Loved DJ Kat with Linda De Mol...it was never the same when it moved to being UK based...the show lost it's humour and became really childish and unfunny. Also loved Fun Factory.

This was satellite broadcasting in the days before it became more corrupt and subscription TV services became nothing but hi-tech racketeers. That is why I prefer not to have a satellite dish or Sky box.

+Hoshi No Kaabii I can just imagine the one or two lucky Finns that got to see Sky back then if their parents could afford a satellite at all.

The set was expensive and was by certain a luxury. I wonder how much it costed a month?

+Christopher Sobieniak Quite many had cable tv in Scandinavia. I was one of them. But those without had only one tv channel at most .. or two :)

Michal Bergseth I bet. This was probably a revelation when cable/satellite became a thing you've heard about and wanted so badly. Now suddenly you had a choice, and it wasn't the same state-subsidized stuff!

I grew up in Milton Keynes and Sky Channel was on our city-wide CA-TV system for a small annual fee since before i can remember (Born 1982)
