if I want to get into astrophotography should I get something like this and skip getting the s11620 Dobsonian classic 10 inch for my first scope?

Hello, I purchased this scope and the focuser was really hard to turn. There are four fixer screws and three other hex bolts on the focuser - can you point me to a manual that shows how I can get the focuser to be smooth? I loosened up the fixer screws and that seemed to help. But I need instructions for all of the screws and tension, etc. thanks

Got the 120mm lately and, a question : is it possible, with its standard accessories, to put a televue barlow 2x for DSLR photo ? I couldn't find how...
@genogeno12344 жыл бұрын
Are you looking to add the barlow for planetary imaging? Then yes you can, and should.

Thank you very much for showing off the 150mm! Now I'm ready to negotiate and make a deal on how much they will take it for. How about $1200.00 buck? :-D

I am in the market for a larger APO refactor such like the 150 Esprit but am concerned for the cost and weight. My mount supports 60lbs payload: the Skywatcher is 32 + diagonal + Finder + Camera + guide = getting close to maximum load. The cost of scopes are more competitive now, a good 130mm APO is less than the 150 your offering and is near the same visuals. Convince me the Skywatcher can do the same at thousands less, which scope does the esprit 150 directly compare to? is it the 150 Tak ?
@maxtoad685110 жыл бұрын
I am more concerned about the validity of the "performance" endorsements as compared to other top end instruments, I have been around long enough know words mean nothing once the unit is in the backyard and you are looking through an eyepiece. I want pure true color as my eye sees it nice round stars and good planet detail, if the Esprit line can do that I am sold, problem is... where can I test drive it?

Thanks. i just got the 120/1000 skywatcher Could you tell me if the telescope suffers a lot of damage if I want to observe from the seashore? I say this because of the salinity that can affect the lenses. Is there a trick to protect it and be able to go anyway?
@SkyWatcherUSA2 жыл бұрын
Saltwater can eat away at the optical coatings over time. Definitely keep them covered and indoors when not in use. You may have to get them recoated a little sooner than others (10+ yrs).

What's the best scope for visual use only? Especially for observing the Moon and not Deep Space. I'm after the absolute sharpest and crispest high definition observing of the Moon.

Couldn't they make the 120mm one a bit faster, like f/5.5-6? :/

sure they can, it will be 3 times more heavy and 5 times more expensive

Made in China? The Chinese have pretty poor Quality Control I manufacturing facilities. However, the 150 looks great and I'd buy one if I had the cash on hand. Being able to collimate each lens is a big plus.

there's nothing wrong with made in China mate. Chinese made products have come an awful long way, and a lot of them provide quality at exceptional prices. PS Japan once had a terrible reputation for clones of Western products that were very poorly made, but over time, they vastly improved. History is repeating itself with Chinese made products. PPS go look at a 6" AP refractor or Tak or APM and it'll be vastly more than 6k. And differences in IQ will be rather hard to pick between these more expensive brands, and the SkyWatcher unit. I wish SkyWatcher would do some seminars with double blind test images just to show all you brand snobs for what you are - SNOBS.
@angleturner6 жыл бұрын
that's a great price for a 6" and the Esprits are some of the best APO's made. and probably THE best Chinese scopes made. "consistent quality-wise", that is. if it'd be made anywhere else (than China) it'd be double to triple that price. REPLY
@davepastern6 жыл бұрын
I could have afforded the 6" but decided to go with the esprit 80 over the 100/120/150. Why? Weight and my current mount simply couldn't handle the larger scopes.
@genogeno12344 жыл бұрын
The Chinese make high quality stuff now. Maybe not 20 years ago, but things have changed. Drastically.

Pretty much every astronomical product on the market right now is made in China. The occasional Japanese product. And a few that are assembled in the US but the components come from elsewhere. We'll be doing a comparison of all of the refractors on the What's Up? Webcast in January. You may want to check it out.

@genogeno12344 жыл бұрын
Dobs are not suited for astrophotography. Get a refractor to start, and you can later get a SCT or a RASA or something like that. Just not Dob. Wrong tool for the job.
