Great introduction to Keyframe. I can see the reason for moderating the speed between keypoints, particularly if they are close, or involve complex moves, as basic physics can make a particular route unachievable at higher speeds. My hope is that as they develop Keyframe, you'll be able to bump up the speed commensurate with the distance between keypoints and vary from fast to slo-mo, point-to-point.

Seems like it wouldn’t be too onerous to adjust the speed manually as it is going through its flight, by adjusting the speed slider
@Dcrainmaker
@Dcrainmaker 2 жыл бұрын
@@29mailman Indeed, and I did that numerous times. Except, it gets tricky with things like sweat or moving vehicles/situations. For example, while running and riding solo, I had my phone with me, and trying to do those while getting the slider to *exactly* the right position is tough. Of course, if you're sitting shooting something else, then it's easy/trivial.

Would be really cool if keyframing and active track were integrated so the camera would orient and swivel to follow a subject while executing the keyframe maneuver.

The shot at 13:30 is beautiful! I don't know why you tend to talk down the video quality of the Skydio. It may be average compared to DJI, but it certainly is capable of some very above average captures! Thanks for all you do, Ray. Cheers!

Thanks! Indeed, it's a good shot cinematically, but it's still heavily underexposed. I shot that at 2PM and had the exposure increased by +1.0. And, that's with big sun flares breaking through the clouds. It should have been far brighter. Now, in brighter light conditions, the difference between the Skydio and DJI series isn't as obvious. Cheers!

Another great review Ray. Seriously Skydio is miles ahead of the competition on their tracking, so it is odd they set such a low speed limit on this new keyframing feature. I think if it can get to around 30-45km/hr even just in bursts this will be a killer feature for adventure sports videographers. Will be keeping my eyes pealed for your update when they make it happen 😉

A new function to try. After owning my Skydio for about 9 months I still struggle with it, probably because I am a novice drone pilot and am trying to make the Skydio do things its not designed for. I have a few times where the drone just does its own thing (like flying down and stopping along a cliff), which I then have to manually recover and always think I will lose the drone. I also find its hard to get long distance shots, even when using the beacon. The drone is a bit heavy, particularly with 3 batteries, which makes it a clumsy when I take it along for cycling, MTB, and running. For that reason I just purchased a DJI mini. But for tracking its awesome. Get great shots on MTB. I do find it time consuming to change batteries, which then requires to reconnect everything - drone, phone, beacon, and GPS. Be nice is there was some way to do a hot swap. Keyframes looks interesting, but like cable it will take me a will to figure out and master. And drain my 3 batteries each time in the process.

Thanks for always in depth vid! The thing that sucks with Skydio, is that it got promoted by consumers and not business, and for free! suddenly, after they have become famous they have turned to the big business forgetting or rather neglecting us consumers, that actually brought them fame. Now allot as you, yourself described in the vid, there are things you can do with the enterprise edition software, that we ordinary consumers dont get in the app. I get it that they need to differentiate between the enterprise solution and the private consumer solution, but not by functions that should be available to us private consumers as well. We helped them become popular and in demand in the business area, now I feel to put it mildly they give us the middle finger!

my question is if you can save your flightpath for later. For example, at our Lunar New Year’s celebration, we have a shot where the building’s staff lines up (Rockette’s style). The drone does a low flyby so that the entire staff gets some facetime with a good wave. The drone then climbs and does some cinematic maneuvers around our building and the immediate surroundings (not just circling but a bit more complex). I can’t expect the staff to wait around while i plan the shot. I’d like to plan it the day before or so and then on the day of, the staff gets in place and I execute the maneuver.
@harshalhbhosale
@harshalhbhosale 2 жыл бұрын
Looks like you can have it load the previous keyframes (just the last known set of frames, no option currently to select from a list of multiple saved Keyframe pathways). So you could just save them beforehand and have the drone launch from the same exact spot (place your Skydio case on the same exact GPS location as much as possible) and you should be good to go.

Indeed, was a very windy day, roughly 50-60KM. Or basically, just a normal day in the Netherlands. :) And yeah, if it wasn't so cold and miserable out, and I wasn't on my 5th and last battery, I'd probably have tried to nail that bike timing a bit better. Still, the concept is super cool, especially if they can fix some of the tweaks I suggested.

Thank you for this. I live in Oregon and the weather is not optimum to say the least so I haven't got my Skydio 2 out yet, but is Keyframing a free feature through an update? Anyway, I see the benefit of Keyframing but why not create the Keyframe course as actual waypoints. Waypoints that can then be programed individually to tell the Skydio 2 to do anything from change the direction of the main camera, to speed and whether to take a picture or a video? You could also display these points on a map or aerial photo from Google Earth and manipulate the course there. This is easy to do I believe because other companies have done it and without some ridiculous requirement to buy some $2000 software unlock. Parrot does it with their ANAFI line. The original ANAFI. Anyway, I'll look forward to seeing more about this and the new 2+ from you! P.S. How did you get your Skydio 2 and 2+?

@@Dcrainmaker I was not sure if it was my setup (144Hz monitor + 60 Hz monitor) I see that stuttering on my footage too (mavic mini 1st gen) and thought it was a limitation of the drone.. I just tried my phone and still saw the stutter.. I'll make a video and update here :)

@Dcrainmaker
@Dcrainmaker 2 жыл бұрын
@@Airbag888 Interesting (looking now on a full-screen display). It's hard to tell in this case if that's gimbal stutter, or aircraft stutter/movement. I'd guess gimbal stutter. While DJI has by far the best gimbals, these day's others like Skydio are pretty darn good. Wind may have been a contributing factor here. When I do those crazy wind tests at 50-70KPH, many people think it's the aircraft's flying abilities that'll struggle. But in reality, if there's a failure, it's almost *ALWAYS* the gimbal, in specifically how it deals with a gust - where you'll see a stutter like that. It can be worsened if there's any (even slight) gimbal damage or debris in inside it, perhaps at the edges of performance. Given that this unit I flew this with is 2+ years old, and been battered, it wouldn't surprise me if there's some imperfections there.
@Airbag888
@Airbag888 2 жыл бұрын
@@Dcrainmaker thanks for the answer Imo it's more related to the shutter speed vs recording fps? I could be wrong My reasoning is that the stutter seems very regular throughout but I'm certainly no expert
