This bird can see a mile away, streamline itself like a bullet and power dive from 20k ... And a Cheetah has to do all that chasing😆

Incredible that she's completely comfortable hurling towards the ground tucked in to go FASTER at those speeds, and then be able to brake and not just snap her wings... The courage of these animals...

nope , in a dive it does not experiences any additional G forces than any other object on rest on the surface of earth. when diving its just free falling with acceleration G.

the b-2 bomber is modeled on the peregrine falcon to increase stability, though not as stealthy, it is still good

I posted/copied this from elsewhere (in a Metheny song on youtube.. The Falcon) so don't remember where I got it... nature knows how to build them... "The peregrine has evolved a type of nasal covering that diverts the high-pressure air from entering and damaging their lungs."

I was just at Jones beach on long island, falcons everywhere. When you see them in action close up, it's a special time.

People don’t know but that squirrel is most likely dead or unconscious. These falcons are so fast due to their signature dive that they hit their pray with so much force to immediately put them out. They literally punch their pray on impact and go back to grab it after. They are literally bullets from the sky

The crazy part is not the sheer dive speed (although the title of fastest animal is a big deal,) but instead it's the dive recovery. WW2 dive bombers like the SBD, or Stuka dive with dive brakes on meaning they're aerodynamically not at the fastest speed they can go. Even then, their hit rate was quite low. Yet these guys dive at full tuck, hit their target, then recover like it's nothing.

Is there a video with the sound this bird makes while flighting near you? I’ve heard it once in the mountains. It sounded like a fighter aircraft!

Yes,I have also saw & heard the sound the Falcon diving to catch the running rabit at my village kanchinakote in Karnataka,India,the sound was terrifick like figjter jet in action.

242 mph? That’s insane! I knew they could go around 200 but I thought that was the absolute max. The fastest peregrine in the world type thing. Apparently not.

@@kingace6186 Well yes obviously. Are you suggesting they may be capable of going faster? Cuz I can well believe it. I’ve seen peregrines in stoops many times as my dads friend did falconry and he took us with him a good few times and he had several different falcons as well as hawks and buteos. You can’t appreciate how fast it is when it’s being recorded because the camera usually follows the bird stooping and you just can’t tell that it’s going so fast. Only when the camera is recording a fixed position and the falcon flashes past can you appreciate the speed from a recording.

Definitely flying because the bird is in full control. It can speed up, slow down or break out of the dive.
