I'm still new in the sport, I definitly know that I will practice freeflying. I never thought about how many jumps it could take to become a "Belly Master". Over it, this is the first time I have to think that: Yes in deed, I need to become that "Belly Master" to fully enjoy that discipline, and of course, to be safer in the sky. I always want to jump again after watching your videos. It is so frustrated that it is not possible right know. Not even tunneling :( The last couple of days I am just checking my gear, packing my canopy and watching skydive videos. Somebody should have warned me that skydiving gets you addicted 😀 I even start thinking about BASE-Jumping.......

One thing people never seem to mention about skydiving is how hard the parachute pulls up on your groin muscles when it opens, and how painful that can be if your harness isnt positioned properly. It's like the worst wedgie you ever got in middle school ×5

That was something as a jumper with about 50 jumps was wondering with the visors. When I purchased my G4, I got an extra tinted visor that's on there now. The sun blinds me up there so I like to be able to see well and not squint. I jumped about a month ago in cold weather and my visor was fogging up so I had to crack it. I couldn't open all the way as the cold air blowing into my eyes was making my eyes water, hence where some shades to protect my eyes would have come in handy.

It is surely more comfortable, but again for communicating in freefall it is a bit annoying IMO. ;)

@@SkydiveVibes If only we could communicate to each other's helmet's via proximity blue tooth or something. You'd have to be close in formation for that to possibly work though :D

Especially for AFF coach to student communication. Instead of hand signals you could just talk :D. You'd need a close faced helmet for this to work though

I’d love for you to do a video on some of the social considerations- or “non jump related” - aspects of skydiving. As a brand new AFF student, I’m always fascinated by the mindset of skydivers and wonder what the common personality trait is that makes us opt-in to the measured risk and lifestyle, etc. For example, I always seek out other skydiving parents to talk to lately because Im dealing with some guilt over becoming a skydiving parent. Or how do you handle the objections by non-skydiving friends or family members (when I told my doctor I was taking up skydiving, she insisted on referring me to a therapist, as she has the uninformed opinion that it’s a suicidal or reckless act haha 🙄). I’m 36, and I always wonder how many people actually start skydiving in their 30s and 40s or later in life, and what made them choose that all of a sudden. It also occurs to me that skydiving is a bit of a privileged sport - you must be pretty financially comfortable in order to skydive (thankfully I’m finally at that stage in my life). And as my husband debates whether or not to take an AFF course as well, I think a lot about what the relationship implications are - whether it tends to become something to bond over, or whether couples tend to get competitive with each other... for me, part of me wonders if it would be less fun if my husband was also jumping because I’d be distracted by worrying about his safety in addition to focusing on my own safety and learning. I also wonder about some of the differences in skydiving practices or skydiving culture from country to country. Also lots to unpack on a personal level regarding self-doubt, self-image, the pure joy of accomplishment and overcoming fears, etc. Lots of social aspects that might make for great discussion for new skydivers. (Or maybe it’s just my weird social scientist way of thinking.) Love your channel, Catherine! When I started considering AFF after doing my first tandems, finding your channel and seeing another girl in my general age range helped a lot to convince me to go for it. Fingers crossed for this kit! 🤞🏼

Can I ask a beginner question? Is there a reason we can't have handles on the rear risers like we have on the fronts. Seems like it would be a big help when getting back from a long spot. My rears are heavy and it's a wrist burner.

Sure! That is a good question and I would say 2 things: - Rear riser pulled too hard can cause your canopy to stall. So having handles would make that too easy and it can be dangerous if unwanted. We can often pull just the necessary because they are harder to pull. - As a newer skydiver your canopy may be bigger hence why they are harder to pull. But as you progress and have a better wingloading, they may become easier to use.

I liked this video. I was getting my C CoP last year but Covid hit us. DZ shut down and then reopened in May/June. Tough protocols would be a understatement !!! I want my C so I can get my C2 and help student get their SOLO. Teaching novice jumpers ( I can as a JM and C1 ) is so much fun. And I get free jumps and paid to ! If someone wants to make money and spend time at the DZ they should become packers. Always a need for a good packer at every DZ. Love your channel. I haven’t jumped for almost a year because of stupid Covid 😫😫. I’m finally looking to buy my own rig, do you recommend buying a 2nd hand complete rig or brand new? Thanks for commenting! For a first rig, yes I would recommend second hand for the cost but it has pros & cons (fit...) Make sure your canopy progression stabilizes as well before. ;)
