I admire soliders who have the strength to leave their families, the power to overcome any intense training, the courage to fight in any war and the dedication to keep their beloved ones in their mind every single second until they hopefully finally return.

This reminds me of my grandfather who served in the military. I remember being so happy and overjoyed when he came home. I was just 6 then, and I didn't understand the pain of the world. I thought everything would be fine now that he was back. But I wrong. He later commuted suicide. Leaving me, and my family heartbroken with only a little letter from him complaining that, "Life is to hard." And, " You won't understand. " But now, I want to be in the Air Force. And I will do everything in my power to live on for him. But still, I wish he would come home.

Man. Seeing some of the comments here about people who have lost loved ones makes me realise how fortunate I am. I'm in the military and have been away from my family for 10 months. Currently on a bus to the airport to finally see them. I see myself as lucky, because some people don't have that opportunity to just go home to where they belong with loved ones. Please keep you're family and friends close. Try and make the effort to stay in touch with them. Because you never know the day they may not come home.

I felt this way when I was with my “dad”. He lives two provinces away from my mom and I was there for the summer spent my birthday there, he tried to make it fun for me so I Would stay but no matter how hard he tried, I would still give the world to be with my mom. Every day there was always an issue and I just couldn’t take it. Coming home was the most reliving thing that could ever happened to me, I’m so glad I didn’t have to go this year, and by the time Christmas comes, I will already be old enough to say I would rather be with my mother... so yeah.
