In this video I get into the details of an issue I found with my SkyRC D200neo ac/dc charger I bought coupled with the BD350 discharger. I bought both of these new products at rcjuice.com.
I was looking for a small charger I could put in my toolbox that had the capability for high current charging and discharging. For discharging/storage I found the charger would cut off too early and then the battery would still have too many volts for storage.
I sent this video to skyrc for review, which is why is is so long. I wanted them to see the full storage cycle and it clearly shows the charger did not fully discharge the battery to storage voltage.
Where I bought mine:

Hi I just need to do a correction what I said about the storage mode on the Sky RC ultimate charger. I said in my last comment that you can adjust the voltage on the storage mode but that is NOT correct. You only adjust the amp and the number of cell voltage, 7.4 2s, 11.1v3s e.t.c as usual. The 3.8V storage setting for each cell for Lipo battery is not adjustible but you don't need to adjust that. Every type of battery has the correct storage for each cell built in the program. The rest I said about the charger in my last comment is right.

Hi Thank you for bringing up the issue. The same issue is on their new sky rc q400neo and also on the new Team Orion charger that also is a small charger. I have borrow the new Sky rc q400neo charger from a friend that have just bought it. The storage mode does not work as it should on that either. The storage volt is set to 3.8volt and it´s permanent. The storage mode should be 3.85 or at least be adjustable. Still the charger stops the storage volt on the battery when "done" at 3.76-3.77 instead of 3.8v. The highest discharge voltage you can set is 2.0A. I also noticed that you can only storage the battery from lower voltage than 3.8 but when you need to storage charge your battery from higher volt than 3.8 it does not work. It still want to charge in more volt then 3.8 instead of discharge the battery to 3.8 on storage. I´m not going to buy this new q4000neo. Instead I´m going to try my luck with the Sky rc ultimate 400w charger instead that has a max discharge voltage of 5A, just like my older Team Orion charger.

Standard for any type of discharge with that amount of current

This is normal because the battery has resistance. When you apply a high discharge current the voltage will drop lower and when the current is removed the voltage goes up back up a little. There are 2 ways to mitigate this. Discharge at a lower amperage or discharge to 3.5v /cell and charge to storage voltage.

I was hoping/expecting this charger to automatically back off the current to put the pack in storage voltage, which it does. The problem is the charger does not back it off enough and monitor the pack long enough. I end up using 0.1 amp with storage mode and I have to do this about 4 times in storage to actually bring it to storage voltage. I have an old ISDT charger that will bring it to storage with one try, so it seems to be a problem with the firmware of the skyrc charger.

@@lawton70 I bought a T1000 charger and a BD350 discharger and I have exactly the same issue. I have reported the issue to SkyRC a week ago and I hope they release a new firmware version that fixes this. I also have a BD250 discharger, and with that I can set discharge cut-off voltage manually to 3.73-3.75V/cell, depending of the battery and discharge current, and it works pretty nicely, but you can't do that with BD350... and you shouldn't as BD350 should do it fully automatically.

Hi again I return with update on my new Sky RC ultimate 400w charger I just bought. This charger work when it comes to storage mode on both ways. The storage mode is adjustible but for lipo it is 3.8 and you can't adjust to 0.5 in between so for example 3.7, 3.8, 3.9 e.t.c As I said the storage mode work both ways and what I mean is, if your battery has a higher voltage than 3.8, then it discharge the cells to 3.8 on storage mode. If the voltage is lower than 3.8, it charge the cells to 3.8 on storage mode. One of my 11.1volt lipo seems to be bad even if the battery is just 2 years old and I have been careful with it and keep it on storage under winter time. The charger could not end the storage on the battery even thou the cells was on 3.8V so I had to terminate the storage by hand by push stop. I can't blame the charger for this problem when the other 3 lipos stoped at 3.8V. I think the Sky RC ultimate 400w is their best charger, better than their new q400neo but it is also their most expensive so it should be very good and the best and work properly. Hope this info can help anyone.

Thanks for the review. Saved me ftom buying this charger + bd350 which I wanted for exactly the purpose of having smart discharge to a set voltage level. Ie fast discharge at high load then dynamically adjust till the voltage is steady. Since this product is not doing that theres no advantage over my bd200. P.S. I do understand how batteries work.

@@lawton70 I got basically the same answer and SkyRC suggested that "So to get a stable storage voltage, it's recommended to storage the battery with the charger only."... and "After discharging the batteries to storage voltage using the BD350, it may be beneficial to consider using the charger for further storage discharge. This approach would significantly reduce the overall discharge time and improve overall efficiency." So they basically say that BD350 is not meant for storage discharging (due to lack of intelligent software in T1000 / D200neo). I'm very disappointed and I won't be doing discharge in two steps and wait for an extra hour due to their software flaws. SkyRC customer service is friendly, but their development is seriously lacking will or competence.

@@AnttiRC Thanks for your feedback! Ive tried storage without the bd350 attached and i still had to store 2-3 times before it actually got to storage volt. Ive given up using this charger. Its a great charger if you only want your packs 97% charged and stored at a random voltage.

This is the worst thing about this charger. Skyrc needs to allow the storage voltage to be adjusted from 3.75 to 3.85. A discharge to 3.8 volts with no CV current reduction leaves the battery with too much charge and bounces back too far as shown in this video. If you could at least storage discharge to 3.78 or storage charge to 3.82 this charger would be greatly improved. ToolkitRC charger can do this and it would be a simple change to the Skyrc charger to also do it. Also discharge should be able to set a voltage as high as 3.5 volts not 3.4 max as it is at the moment.

@@lawton70 I was really hoping this charger would become my go to charger, however the storage discharging is so bad, compared to my ISDT FD200, I don't want to use it. A real shame, as the charging/balancing is so good. I don't understand how SkyRC could have missed the ball so badly over this. It will certainly put me off buying anything SkyRC again!

@@lawton70 If they could automate a good storage discharge, like the ISDT FD200, that would be amazing, however, all they need to do is give the storage voltage a setting of 3.75 to 3.85 in 0.01 steps and discharge voltage from 3.7 to 3.0 in 0.1 steps to significantly improve this charger. I can only hope we get a firmware update, to save the money spent on two excellent bits of hardware (D200neo & BD350).

@@lawton70 Just a thought. Try discharging a LiPo as a Lilon, using the BD350. This will discharge it to 3.7 volts, which should be a lot better for a LiPo discharge. It should bounce back to around 3.8 volts, since the discharge doesn't taper off. At least it will take over half the capacity out of the battery. You could use LiPo for your LiHV batteries. I'll try it when I'm home tonight.

your complete lack of understanding when it comes to battery chemistry is the problem not the charger/discharger. This is totally normal if you put a lipo battery under high amp discharge whether it is via a discharger unit as you have there or in normal use, you will always see the voltage rise once load is removed. Who the hell is discharging packs to storage at 20A. suggest you better manage your lipos if you feel the need to have to hammer packs back down to storage at the end of a day. stop charging to many packs, simples
@lawton70
@lawton70 8 ай бұрын
I appreciate the feedback. I completely agree that if you discharge a battery at high current load and you remove the load the battery voltage bounces back. This happens with Lipo batteries, LiHv batteries, and even in my 1-1 car lead acid battery. The problem with this charger is not with a discharge, the problem is with Storage. With storage the lipo / lihv must be stored at storage volt. In the case of this charger it does not matter what current you set the storage mode to it never brings the pack to storage volt. I've tried 20A(which this charger is made to do), 10a, 5a, 2a, 1a, 0.2a. No matter the current selected it takes about 4 retries of the storage mode for the pack volt to be set to storage volt. I have an ISDT T8 charger with storage mode. It can only do 2a but when I store this exact same pack with that charger it balances that pack to storage volt first try everytime. This skyrc charger needs 4 tries at 2a to bring the pack to storage volt. So after all these tests and testing the exact same battery pack on several different chargers I can safely say this charger isn't working properly.

@@StephenNZ Does not seem to. Without the bank you can only discharge at lower amps, but at lower amps the charger becomes more accurate of course. The reason I bought this charger was that it had the bank and I was expecting that for a quick storage I could set the rate at a high rate and the charger would use the high amps initially and then back off the amps until the battery was at storage volt.
