I do that lol It's fun, I like to fast travel to a place and tackle all the quest markers in the area then head home with the spoils.

I do that too in my survival playthrough since I don't want to go back a forth for every single quest

Nah, especially if you don't have fast travel. Half of the quests seem designed with fast travel in mind. "Uh yeah, could you grab my hankie on the other side of the continent? Thanks, here's five gold and some leather armor."

He is, because we talk to Lod saying the dog you were looking for was more trouble than it is worth. Remember, we see Barbas after initially talking to Lod in town.

@@cdldriver2348 yeah, I know the triggers work together but technically we don‘t know. Our character assumes it the right dog and that is why our character says what he says. We players know the game triggers those responses in combination with Barbas but since lod never recognizes the dog we don‘t really know if that is really the right dog that he is looking for or not. The character itself can only assume since neither Iod or the Dog recognize each other nor does the Dog mention Iod.

@@maxniemand975 Barbas wouldn't have any reason to mention the smith. he's preoccupied with more pressing matters and the smith seeing him doesn't mean he saw the smith. if the smith tried to catch him, barbas probly outsmarted/outmaneuvered him and went on with his day without even committing much thought to him. as to whether barbas is the dog he's looking for, the question is easy enough to answer: 1. barbas isn't just the first dog we see, he's in the same rough area the smith saw the dog he's looking for, increasing the likelihood barbas is the one we're looking for. 2. are there any other strays in the same general area? i know there are other strays in game like meeko etc., but is there another stray dog npc near the start of the barbas quest?

100% is barbas, most dogs in skyrim, if not all of them, are tamed and the rest are just wolves

I did that in my fan-fiction story. I had my protagonist befriend Barbas, help him see how Vile abused him, and then told Vile, "I'm going to keep your axe AND your dog." It was the only time Marcus ever got the one-up on a Daedric Prince.

I've been playing for 5 1/2 years and thought about it just yesterday to actually bring the dog back.

I've tried this, once quest has been activated and you go to talk to Barbas, come back to Lod and talk to him, you can then tell him, the dog is not worth chasing & he still gives you 25 gold even though the mission is still going on.

Those were mostly small quests, the ones that can be knocked out in 10 min or less.

Whether you accept the Rueful Ax and then kill him with the Ax or accept the Helmet, he should disappear and become a statue. If he is still in the room after getting the Ax & you talk to his owner(statue) and you inform his owner that you want to keep the Ax, you MUST kill Barbas with the Rueful Ax in order to end the quest l.

Is a cool bug, happens if you dont let Barabas end his speech after earning the helmet, the dog will remain there and if you return days later, he will be killing the vampires there so free loot

No mod, I just fast travel and then run ahead of him when I get to the cave and kill the 2 in there before Barbas starts screwing everything up by barking.

No you can't , he says this even if you dont have the dog with you , this is just what he says after you basically tell him you won't give him his dog back

It’s a pain when you make a anti Daedra character. I have to avoid quite a few npcs trying initiate those quests

@@thebigyes8482 It is? There are lots of little eventualities Skyrim accounts for, like what Durnehviir says if the Dragonborn hasn’t started the main quest.

@@theweirdofengland Have you played many RPGs? It’s strange to me that that’s a little eventuality in your eyes. Skyrim does the bare minimum for the game’s dialogue to make sense depending on which quests you’ve completed or where you’ve been, and often times not even that.
