Oh my, Serana. What big teeth you have.
This is possibly one of the most requested follower mods I've had on the channel, with people asking me to include it in the Skyrim Modded series as well. Today we finally take a look at the very well known Serana replacer and overhaul, along with its romance, dates, and miscellaneous quests.

I’ve had this mod in my load order for quite awhile, and I will say that I think SDA Serana is great to have around exclusively as a regular follower or friend. As for the romance…that needs to be overhauled like completely imo. I think this video is pretty self explanatory as to why.

when you play as an imperial serana comments on loving the brandy and when you go to elenwens party serana asks you to bring back a bottle. plus when your raiding fort frostmoth and you unlock the room that has all the loot serana see`s all the brandy and flips

Due to my choice of stone, and use of the Aetherial crown also having the same power, and level in Alteration, my magic absorption was over 120%, and when I spoke to her about when she "put a calming spell on you" I was able to tell her it didn't effect me. So I am glad they covered all the basis of the subject at hand. It also negates any dragon breath weapon, and spell casters are a non-issue, as all spells are absorbed negating any effects they would have otherwise. - Not recommended when helping a particular student in the mage's collage, as the spells never take effect so they can't wear off, forcing a console command to advance the quest chain. But highly recommended when using the scrolls from a particular khajiit in the same area as the scrolls effect the caster as well.

It really comes down to what you want from Serana. If you want something more like the vanilla character, mods like Serana Dialogue Edit exist. Marty created his own version of Serana, one that clearly works for a lot of people out there. As always, modding comes down to what you want out of your game, so mod accordingly.

Dialogue in depth is better. Personality wise it's a flip of a coin sometimes good, sometimes well questionable

The original serana, her lore and backstory, and especially the whole daughter of coldharbor thing REEEEEEALLY do not lend itself to her being lovey-dovey, domestic and... honestly this aggressive, romantically. It's got a LOT of personality, but this is the one sort of person for whom crowbarring in a romance REALLY feels icky.

Krysten did such a great job to me. With SDA if you do House of Horrors she has special dialogue. Also, sorry but its better doing not only Dawnguard but the entire game with this along side it. It never gets old to me. She has dialogue for most the Main quest, you becoming Dragonborn and Fighting Miraak.

Honestly... I can't help but feel like there were some weird choices made for the dialogue. There are several parts of it that just feel a bit stiff and maybe a bit unnatural or out of character. Overall it's great work though, kudos to the mod creator.

This is a small thing and probably not worth changing now but, a suggestion for the mod creator would have been an option in the dialog for curing the players vampirism as well as Seranas'. Maybe they could have replaced the name of Falion in her dialog with another name so you could go at the same time without much trouble. It seems a little strange to ask her to get cured while remaining a vampire yourself.

HI, Zero, I know it's probably a bit late, but if you are delving into follower mods, I'd really like to suggest you taking these great followers (Inigo, Kaidan, Serana, Bjorn etc...) through vanilla quests, as they have quite a bit of interactions along the way, as well as to each other (With Lucien)...Again, I should have mentioned it before the playthrough, but I didn't know you'd interested in these followers.

I intentionally only wanted Lucien for the full Playthrough, so while I will be covering various followers, it'll usually be focused on their new content, and I'd discuss main questline interactions and the like in the review portions

@@0periodproductions I would suggest taking a look at other followers as well, like Xelzaz, Remiel, Sa'chil, Gore, Khash, Yazakh or Redcap. They all are amazing and a joy to have in a playthrough! A lot of them also have interactions between each other, which is super neat

@@chloe-historyandgames What made Serana so special in Dawnguard was two fold. Unlike all the other followers in Skyrim Serana had some depth. The writing around her was just better. And Laura Bailey is a very talented and prominent voice actor. I assume you are talking about an AI program that copies voices? I just doubt it will come across the same as having a real person voicing those lines.

What blew my socks off was when inigo told Serana he knew she was a vampire but serana reassured inigo that she only eats bad guys. I was not expecting the Banter, incredible!

I thought you said you were gonna wait until all the main updates for SDA were complete. Did you change your mind? Or did Marty finish the updates already? I haven't been keeping track of the dev roadmap recently.

The updates from here will be for adding commentary to Daedric quests and some other quest mods, but everything that I would want to be able to show off for videos is in the current build. I definitely recommend checking his site when you get a chance, seeing that there's planned updates for Vigilant, Lucien, etc is really interesting to read about.

I've just lost interest with the mod as of late, so I don't know if anything has changed or not. 😅 But that makes sense, there's still a bunch of mini-content in the current build. Laura Bailey is a tough act to follow, and has been a big name in voice acting for over a decade now. I think Kerstyn did a great job, but it's definitely hard to go toe-to-toe with someone like Laura

Ik some people dislike this mod, and that's their opinion but as a replacer to the original character I think its okay. It adds a lot more the character, and more than just that it basically replaces her with a more fleshed out npc. As for the romance... that aspect is optional, very rarely in my own playthrough do I go down that road, you can just remain a platonic companion of serana which I prefer tbh

this is my personal favourite skyrim mod. he just put so much effort into it its insane. she reacts to EVERYTHING and i love it. even other mods. just makes the entire game feel more alive. and his True Blood Serana Replacer is also the best serana replacer

For this I used a completely separate character file, but for any mods I cover, I have clean saves that I go back to after the fact for the next mod series or video.

Why start the video at the end of the story? She comes off strong as fuck in the beginning of the video because Zero Period starts it at the end of Dawnguard DLC once the character development and relationship building is already done.

Because 90% of the Dawnguard story would still be the exact same with the mod installed, which means either some really jumpy editing to show off just the new stuff, or showing Dawnguard in full which might not do as well for views. Which is why I said I'd bring up my thoughts on the Dawnguard components during the review

you do you man. This mod really makes it better along with other Dawnguard mods. Its not the same i know as Lauras voice work, but you really did do a disservice by just jumping to the end of it. @@0periodproductions She has an entire dialogue scene at the Watch tower when doing the main quest. Marty literally worked IN THE entirety of the main quest and DRAGORNBORN, along with DB and Thieves guild quests. NOT just Dawnguard...

Why would you start this showcase with the mod already more that half way through? The first scene you show you're dropped right into a part when a TON of relationship building has already occured with her. I love your showcases, but to me this is an odd choice.

Or editing around the vanilla content to only show the new stuff from the mod which would be incredibly time consuming and probably not flow well at all. Which is why I mention that I'll discuss my experience of the Dawnguard components in the review.

Okay with the context we have from the clip you shown, this version Serana would see the Book "The Lusty Argonian Maid" and decide to take everything not to an eleven but to a hundred before taking it to a million.

I will say that I do feel this is the .ost "gf simulator" companion since Willow for NV. But I do gotta give praise for just HOW MUCH stuff the mod author did for it. If I wanted a more lore friendly expansion for Serana I would use "Relationship Revamped" mod. While it uses a primitive AI voice for her, it's probably the closest thing to a vanilla personality romance we will get.

Pretty sure this mod is responsible for my DB who is a a werewolf but now somehow has some annoying vampire traits such as weakness in sunlight and vulnerability to fire as well as some vampire powers. My DB has normal eyes so not a vampire. However, I still don’t want them. I cannot get rid of them regardless of how hard I try.😒 I’m using XBox so no commands to help neither.

it is broken first issue I haven't done the main quest but she will go into dialogue"dragonborn your back" thats when I first wake her up then it "hey so" every 20 seconds and it is so annoying, I did mention it to the dismissed it 😒

I'm not as big a fan of the VA in this mod. There was a lot of subtlety that's missing in this and the new VA tends to overemphasize in ways tat makes the character come across as a caricature. I do appreciate the new options in dialog but this feels less like a Skyrim mod and more like a dating sim. XD A very cringe dating sim...

What people like you who come into comments to dump on this mod always fail to mention is that the romance path is ENTIRELY optional and you can stay friends and traveling companions.

@@manutgop That doesn't stop the romance path from sounding like something from bad fanfiction nor does it help the VA sound less like a clingy teen. If that's up your ally, hey, you're all set but this isn't the Serana most people wanted. People wanted a romance and marriage option for the vanilla Serana, not this. This comes across as a bad cosplayer. I didn't come here to "dump on this mod". I came here to watch George play it and I don't like this interpretation of the character. and oddly enough, I'm allowed to say that I don't like it an why, here, in the comments.

Literally what I just wrote above. The idea of the mod is great…The execution is laughably bad. I mean the lovey dovey dialogue sounds like it was written by a virgin AI chat bot. To think this mod is as popular as it is actually blows my mind.

I did not like this dialogue...Serana is melancholic and her sense of humour is in that melanhholic line( a bit ironic sometimes) ,also she not damn simp,Mod creator should take real writer to write proper dialog..this is not easy task...she is out of Character..and this thing is way too Cute for Vampire princess visually and personality wise..Voice actor is good,( i really like her voice..it is so beautiful ) writing is lacking here....also mating dialogue ,make her a bit slutty..Serana is strong personality...this is out of touch..
