Would it be possible to do Metal Crusher from Undertale on the pneumatic instrument?
@buddahthegod6 ай бұрын
Okay, that's perfect. There are several songs you can put there. Example: Itachi's song

this song is a good fit for the dulcimer! I think that Dojo from Club Penguin would be pretty good on this too :)
@DJthefirst7 ай бұрын
I can try it out. Might have to wait until I get some wind instruments. On the dulcimer the speed of the notes might cause it to sound muddy. love the suggestions!

@@DJthefirst that makes sense. do you use midi files or something like that for your mechanical instruments? also, maybe Nocturne from Katana Zero would be a better fit for this, since it's a lot slower, I'd be interested to hear that on dulcimer
@DJthefirst7 ай бұрын
@@luciatheorphan I have a few different things I can use for my instruments but midi is the core of the project. I can take in MIDI files, or MIDI connections such as keyboards. I primarily open the files in my DAW where I find what parts sound best, shift octaves and for some instruments convert polyphonic chords into single note tracks. The individual tracks get sent to my custom GUI which forwards them to the instruments. Each instrument then decides what tracks it accepts and how to play them on its instrument pool. I am planning on making a video on the process at some point if there is interest. You can see a bit of it in my completely unscripted and spur-of-the-moment Dulcimer testing video. Typicaly I need a midi file to play a song so if it is not super popular it can be hard to find. Also the Dulcimer had a minor fire when some solenoids got stuck but if the electronics are ok It should be a relatively quick fix. lol 🙃

The mechanical part makes it so soulless imo

The soul is in the building and running of the mechanical part, at least that's how I feel as someone else who's incredibly passionate about electro-mechanical instruments

I had a question about these covers yea? How do you pick what instrument to use for a certain song, like do you try to listen to the original by ear and figure out which fits best, or do you try playing it on a few different instruments and pick the best sounding one, or is it like a recency thing based on when you built the instrument?
@DJthefirst5 ай бұрын
There are a few different ways I choose them. With my older videos, it was a recency thing as I only had one or two instruments. Also, all my original videos were just Tesla coil covers. In the newer songs, I do listen by part and see what sounds best but I also consider what notes each instrument can play. I also separate by genera. I typically would not play the dulcimer and tesla coil together because one is for 8-bit covers and the other for more orchestral pieces. Floppy drives can't play high notes so they are my bass line. The pneumatic instrument has a good low mid-range as it can't play high notes either. Stepper motors (a work in progress) are reserved for chords or mid to high parts. Hard drives (a work in progress) and Tesla coils are reserved for high notes the other instruments can't hit. I also have plans for a bass guitar and wind instrument like a flute but they fit into my orchestral instruments.
