The fa cup final against West Ham the goal in the Carling cup against United the goal in that final in Istanbul. He single handed draged us over the line in so many big games. A true Liverpool legend.

If that happens (and as a Liverpool fan I'd love to see him get the job on purely sentimental grounds), I bloody hope he'll play a different style of football with Liverpool than he did with Villa today, because today we saw 80 minutes of antifootball to an extent that even Burnley would be embarrassed of it. Only at the very end of the game did Villa actually start playing without nine men perpetually in their own box.

Although I wanted Liverpool to win and not root for the opposition team. It was hard seeing Stevie G in the away dugout. Played in, looking back, was a understrength Liverpool team and he stayed loyal to the end, even if he was tempted to leave. Deserved the reception. Also massive credit to still acknowledge the villa fans first and foremost. He knows the love he has at Liverpool but knows he's a villa man at this time. Huge respect for that.

He didn't give Rangers a second thought when he was offered the Villa job. He downed tools immediately and left them half way through a season with NO plan B. It's ALL about him. Rangers were used by Gerrard and Villa are EXACTLY the same. The second Liverpool come calling Gerrard will toss his claret and blue scarf in the bin and be heading up the M6 grinning like a Cheshire cat!!!

As a united fan he was the best. Glad he didn't join Chelsea because we would never win a league or CL ahead of them if he did. Would have preferred if he joined Real Madrid though. Would have been good for him and us. One of the best players I have ever seen and IMO he was better than any Man Utd midfielder. On par with Zidane and Iniesta in terms of ability just a little more slippy than them haha

@@zub41r75 calm down. Gerrard was a brilliant all rounder but was technically nowhere near scholes and in terms of dominating games there has been no more dominant a midfielder than Keane in the modern era. Vieira was a more dominant player than Gerrard as well.

@@benitotommassi5820 No Gerrard was better at everything you clearly didn't watch him. He always dominated the match. Rarely a match when he didn't and you knew it was an easy day when Gerrard was not playing. That was the difference of him playing and not playing it was so big it was an easy W when he was not playing

@@zub41r75 you're not insinuating that I hate on Gerrard? Hence my post. No one is unbiased but, I know that if I were picking a team tomorrow, from any players I've seen in my 42 years, to win a title, Roy Keane would be the first name on my team sheet and if we were all unbiased we'd all agree with that. Veron didn't dominate when he joined a world class team and he was unreal for Lazio and Argentina (considered the best in the world at the time). Many players fade when they are not the star of the show anymore and that could well have happened to Gerrard. We will never know because he stuck with his childhood team.
