I remember when people would actually take note of WHO the referee was in a game because the referees WERE/ARE different. When people had the common sense of realising that you CANT expect 100% consistency between games and referees because of that fact. The problem IS VAR not just the people running it. For the simple fact that VAR suggests that 100% consistency can be reached in a game where 90% of all calls fall under the category of "subjective calls," you know, all those calls that people disagree on on social media.

It has no way improved any game I have watched.. Anything that leads to the game being stopped & started to analyse off sides, goals, hand balls etc will not improve the flow & excitement of a match.. We don't need 100% perfection, the games got far too complicated for officials, VAR is all still about interpretation, so still week in week out all that we talk about is VAR.. PGMOL listen up 👇 Semi-automated offsides ✅ Goalframe immediately lights up RED or GREEN after a goal is scored to indicate if it was offside or not (using the same automated system) ✅ VAR: only the onfield referee makes a decision and is therefore immediately sent to the monitor if there's any doubt ✅ Monitor: Still images and slow-motion replays ❌ Goal line technology ✅ This way fans can celebrate the majority of goals immediately like the good old days, and any bad mistakes by refs can be rightfully overturned. Simples 🤷‍♂️

I would love to see it scrapped. It's ruined the whole experience of seeing your team score a goal which is the best part of the game. It has muted celebrations and wastes so much time waiting for things to get forensically checked. If VAR was able to provide 100% correct decisions, delivered in a matter of seconds, then it would be OK. But waiting 5 minutes to check if the strikers big toe was in a more advanced position that the defenders shoulder, to the nearest micro millimeter, is just killing the game for me. I can excuse errors by linesmen and referees made in real-time. Yes it's annoying, but not more annoying that VAR holding up the game for ages, only to go and shaft you with a dodgy decision anyway!

Very interesting development and an important one i feel that there are to many flaws in VAR at present BUT i think it should be partly used drawing the line for offside is pretty good but even that needs a firm guideline it is a sucess in tennis and i think given 100% sound guidelines that would be an improvement.

The big thing that I have noticed with VAR, I remember watching football a goal goes in a quick couple of angles on a replay then its back to the centre circle for a kick off. I can not remember for the life of me seeing a kick off in recent years that was not the start of the first half and start of the second. There is VAR nonsense going on replay and after replay then a conversation. When we cut back to the match the ball is down a wing somewhere with a team on the attack. Perhaps I'm over analysing that but it is something I've noticed. VAR in general slows the game down and spoils the atmosphere, I watched a game recently with my 7 year old and our team scored and he threw his hands it the air and screamed and I instantly said "wait" and I remember thinking to myself afterwards how disgusted I felt for dampening that enthusiasm that I knew I grew up with as a kid. The blame for that falls solely at the feet of a badly run and organised Video referee system. Apologies for the life story just wanted to share

I think the biggest issue with VAR is the 'clear and obvious'. Just get the correct decision. Something could be a right or wrong decision. But then you're leaving it up to the VAR ref' whether that is obvious or not, which is a subjective decision.

Why not run VAR like the NFL reviews replays? There are almost never any issues, the ref always makes the final say on any major decision while reviewing the play on the field. Plus, those reviewing the games are always the same, that way the consistency is there week in and week out. This is really not a difficult thing to do.

If VAR stays, it should be for CLEAR errors and off the ball incidents only. Like if someone is a bit offside then let it be. If someone makes a bad tackle and the ref gives a yellow, let it be. If someone punches a player off the ball and its missed, look at it.

If not scrapped it needs some major changes. One obvious one for me is that if the game has been paused for a VAR review, the ref IMMEDIATELY goes to the screen to see everything and be in on the discussion. An example of this is the non penalty at Anfield against City. From what we heard, VAR did not describe the potential foul properly to the Ref. If the ref had SEEN that challenge, I believe he would have given a penalty, because it was something he could not see on field. The VAR should NOT be giving opinions to him. It should be presenting facts and images to back that up so that the ref can decide if he needs to adjust his decision. Even if he does not, at least then you know it is him who has made the decision.

IF PEOPLE STILL WANT VAR, GIVE MANAGERS 3 VAR REVIEWS That review has to take place within 30 seconds of the said incident. It then has to be reviewed by three independent judges not linked to the referee team in anyway, who must meet a 2-1 or 3-0 decision. A report explaining their decision must then be published within 30 minutes of the game finishing and one of the judges has to give a tv interview after every game explaining their decisions. As for the referee's, they also have to make themselves more visible in regards to explaining their calls and they also can't be immune from criticism, but also not demonised providing they explain themselves. Of course if they are consistently and constantly bad, they need to be demoted or removed for a period of time. It can be done if the manager has genuine concern if a foul went uncalled or the referee made the wrong decision. They get one more if a game goes to extra time. This way the manager is in charge of his own decisions and we get more transparency with the decision making across the board. Plus we also get more speed, excitement and drama back without always trying to turn the game into an exact science.

Before VAR was in use the calls for it's implementation were always after really obvious things like Henry's handball for France v Ireland. We need to keep VAR for clear and obvious errors, but the definition of clear and obvious needs to be exactly that. If the VAR cannot overturn a decision having watched 1 or 2 replays in 30 seconds then just stick with the onfield decision. VAR should be useful 2 or 3 times a season not 2 or 3 times a game.

They need to increase the quality of the referees. I personally don’t like the VAR but that is not the main issue of the Premier League. I certainly don’t consider myself a reference, but I switched to the Bundesliga, where the refereeing is much more consistent, with the VAR - true that financial fair-play is also much more advanced in Germany. The ambiance in the stadiums is great, with almost no tourists (except myself) and no phones. Have been traveling to London regularly during 25 years, from the continent. Bundesliga is much less expensive and is catching up with PL in my view. One of the reasons is the quality of the referees.

VAR is like any tool-it's meant to be used correctly by those who understand it. When someone doesn't know how to use a tool properly, it's not the tool's fault. Other European leagues might not be as vocal about VAR because they might have found a better balance in its application or have different views on its effectiveness. The key is ensuring VAR is used appropriately by knowledgeable officials

The mistakes by VAR is worse now than before VAR. It is one thing for a one human to make a quick on the spot decision based on what he saw or thought he saw. He had no state of the art technology, no way to stop the match and perform a lengthy review of the events. Rewinding and slowing the action from every angle. As such a decision is made, good or bad and the game naturally carry’s on. The officials were given the benefit of the doubt and fans would debate it for years to come over a pint.

The english game is based on Ryan Shawcross ending Eduardo's career and getting no punishment for it. VAR really puts that in danger. You could see Liam Miller fiercely and passionately defend Lundstram's potential career ending tackle in the Rangers vs Celtic game. In Scotland he was immediately criticized. In England it would be another matter. The Premier League is based on very athletic extremely powerful low technique players, VAR is a hindrance.

How VAR is applied is the problem. There's no need to micro-analyse every second of a match. Give the teams a a few reviews per match. Cricket doesn't analyse the entire game, and if a captain fails to review an umpire error then that's their fault. This desire for every football match to be refereed to perfection will always fail.
