Jump zones shut down during a thunderstorm because it would be insane for people to jump out of an airplane into one...yet Sean MacCormac is poised to leap from 2 miles above Southwest Florida with laser beams of lightning randomly igniting the sky and no way to tell which direction is safe. He charges out, feet strapped to his board to surf into a hostile thundercloud at speeds up to 130 mph. When this was a sport in the Xgames it was actually two person teams that included the camera guy because a lot of these moves are actually just an illusion done by the camera guy.

They really need to take this skydiving/ boarding thing to the next level. Someone please invent a glider/ board that you strap to your feet, that can out maneuver and glide a wing suit. Make it happen Red Bull.

On my drop zone nobody does skysurfing, we got one board that was used many years ago. When I'll get enough experience I will bring it back ;)

@@johnstimpsonjr Last half year in the lockdown where I live currently, so not good, but we should be able to jump from end of april/beginning of may, so hopefully soon. The moment we start jumping I'll be packing parachutes for people to get faster to 200 jumps (I'm barely over 100 now) then I'll start doing camera work for tandems, with should allow me jump much more and finally really move my skydiving career forward and hopefully work full time in the sport... And then I will finally get to the point where I will be able to try skysurfing 😉 Long way before me, but if there will be no more lockdown it will go faster. So far my biggest breaks were money, jumping only on weekends and now corona, but I'm dedicated and skydiving is my only life priority right now so... I'll get there! 😁

I'm at 300 jump mark, so I probably could try it, I have to ask around what are the requirements and preparations for this kind of jump. Your comment actually reminded me about it, I'm more focused on progressing in other areas of the sport.

What if you made the board wider and longer creating more drag to drop slower? Also what if you attached a hefty air cylinder to the back of the board that you could control with a remote and let out air really fast to propel you forward instead of just straight down?

2 questions: 1. Why are his bindings in a way that his feet are facing forward? Versus like on a snowboard your feet are facing sideways. I know for skating and snowboarding it's for balance, but I also think it would be more comfortable. 2. Why isn't he doing any spins or flips? Is it because the storm makes it too dangerous so he had to play it safe? It definitely would've looked a little cooler if they had the lightning in the background while he was doing some tricks

his stands is forwards just like a alphine board (slalom racing) It is mostly personal prefferances and the same goes for flips and spins. trying to stay upright is way harder than you might think.
