This is quite the gathering of amazing antique machines. The old timers that ran these machines must look at the machinery of today & say "What are they complaining about? That's a NICE machine!" 10:38, I LOVE the sound of that screaming Detroit in that EUC 72-40

Awesome. It’s amazing to see how far along equipment has come. I have modern machines and love them but I would love to run these everyday too. I think it’s safe to say ALL true equipment operators at heart will agree with me that we never grew up, we just got bigger toys. Lol 👍

I highly doubt in 100 years any construction equipment will run on fossil fuels..but your point is valid new machinery is not built to last...its built fast and as cheap as they are legally allowed to produce them, buy ALL of your big manufacturers...but dam they are nice to run

I am absolutely fascinated not only by watching this machinery work but I love working on it also keeping it running. In watching those shovels work my first thought was what a huge advance the internal combustion engine is over steam for the operator, granted you are still seated next to the entire drive assembly and the engine is directly behind you but things just work so much smoother and the power delivery is so much more consistent! I still have to say I bet at the end of the day those operators were worn out!

There's a catch that engages, when it's angled enough to slam closed, by gravity. To open it, a cable is pulled, by hand, to release the catch.

A lot use the ground drive from the rear wheels to flip the bucket over , some simple ones are almost round and roll themselves , depending on the soil conditions they can be very efficient ..
@rebeccakimmet5474
@rebeccakimmet5474 3 жыл бұрын
Three sections of the scraper bowl, the cylinders move the center cutter section. The front section that holds the dirt in the bowl opens by the rollers that ride on a track on top of the hydraulic cylinder as the cutter edge lowers to ground level. The rear section opens by cable as the whole bowl is raised higher. This will give you a better view of the hydraulic cylinder and pivots, but the cable is not in place: lacrosse.craigslist.org/hvo/d/de-soto-pull-behind-scraper/7242608041.html

A tumblebug would have no wheels. This has no ground drive from the wheels, only one two way hydraulic circuit, which was quite advanced in the 30's when this was designed. Most crawlers would have no hydraulics, only a cable control. GarWood model 25.
