@alexhills38It was Ozzy Osbourne with Blizzard of Oz, who couldn’t or didn’t turn up. The promoters contacted Slade who had actually split up, and told them they would go down really well. Dave Hill needed to be convinced to give it one last try but they showed up with only their instruments, and parked with the general public - and boom! The boost from this one performance got us a bunch more songs from Slade. My Oh My, Run Run Away etc. It was a second wind.

Yes I was there watching Slade filling in for Blizzard of Ozz . Fantastic performance! A few weeks later my local night club “The Norbreck Nite Spot “ advertised that a band who recently cancelled at Reading would be playing , well I knew exactly who that was going to be . So I saw Ozzy Ozbourne playing in the smallest most intimate venue ever . Amazing time . Coincidentally I also managed to see Slade twice at that same venue , brilliant times .

Living in the U.S. they never got much airplay here, and I find rather remiss they they didn't get the attention they deserved. I only heard about them through a friend of mine at the time. His older brother had the "Sladest" album, and played it for me in my formative teens. He also introduced me to Mott The Hoople at the same time, another band that should've gotten more attention here too.

I think I'm right in saying that Slade had more or less broken up at this point and then they were offered this festival slot. The band member who was most keen not to carry on was Dave, he had most or less left the band, the other three were considering stopping though. The headliners 'Blizzard Of Oz' (Ozzy Osborunes band) cancelled, Slade were offered it - and all four members were keen and they did the show.

i was there too, Slade were brilliant should have been on just before DC, ironic as the young brothers asked Noddy to replace bon scott but turned them down. what a band that would have been, loved to have had them make even just one album.

Blimey aren't we a wee bit pumped up?! That's a speed metal version, tempowise. Also note the lack of pedalboards on stage. Not even one stompbox. Todays bands they all have a pedalboard the size of a childrens coffin, full of FX.

Yes, their drummer seems to be frequently way faster on the stage than in the studio... Adrenaline? Anyway, they're so great, that then can play in almost any tempo.... Sometimes it works, sometimes less so.

A Les Paul (even a good copy), Ibanez TubeScreamer,Boss DM2 echo and a Boss BF2 Flanger is pretty much what any hard rock guitarist needs to have on board.(flanger optional).

That is the most bizarre size comparison I think I’ve ever heard. 😆
