Had my first "dance" with a real live girl to this song at Butlins Clacton way back when. The relationship may have only lasted only 4 minutes and 30 seconds but for a 10 year old me it was long enough to remember nearly 50 years later.

Definitely one of my favourite Slade numbers. Noddy just oozes power with this one. I'm too young to remember them in their heyday, but I became a fan at 16 when they made a brief comeback in 1983/84. I've been a huge fan ever since.

Overall, my favourite Slade song. I remember playing it on the juke box at the Italian-run cafe next to the Dome Cinema in Worthing when it was released in the summer of 1973. Later, when my wife sent me on a 10 day silent course with an Indian guru, I played the song in my head to drown out the nonsense of what the guru was talking. Yes, a very powerful, well-recorded song.

Just awesome. I don't know what the hell was wrong with America at the time. Slade *SHOULD* have been tearing up the U.S. charts just like they were in the UK, but they barely made a tiny splash over here. This kicked almost everyone else's ass in '73, by a long shot... but American FM radio programmers didn't wanna know. They were too busy pushing the likes of the Allman Brothers, Carly Simon, and Roberta Flack on us. Damn shame.

For me, this is Slade’s quintessential anthem (and they had a very long list of anthems). This song just sums them up perfectly in my opinion. It may not have scaled the same commercial heights as other more well known glam-stompers like “Gudbuy T’Jane” or “Cum On Feel The Noize”, but it defines them a bit more sharply. The pure joy and catharsis of that intro still gets me going just as much as it ever did. This was Slade at their absolute pinnacle.

It entered the singles chart at no.1 - how high do you think it should have gone?

When this was released the band was down to a 3 piece after Don Powell was in a car crash that killed his girlfriend. The producers of Top of the Pops in the UK wouldn't let Slade perform as a 3 piece so they just showed a group of people dancing

Of course everything is subjective but, for me, Slade are the greatest rock n roll band ever. Holder's voice is one of the most recognisable in British rock. So glad I grew up in 60s, 70s and 80s when they were in their prime. Compare with today's dross.
