Great job! But this is the way I learned and then the only way we did it. We also learned behind a wood Wagemaker boat with a 1956 25 HP Evinrude.

Does take a bit of practice I’ll admit before you nail it , but try doing it with a ski with no foot fittings and that’s something else

The hardest part must be balancing on the right foot for a second before the left foot connects to the ski.
