I subscribed a few months ago, Found you through Cletus. I enjoy the videos so much I’ve gone back to watch all the historical videos. I used to be able to work on cars and now I’m laid up due to medical issues, but I can still get my thrill through this channel. I love your wit and it’s pretty cool you have your family involved. They appear very well raised and have awesome parents, and they will grow up to appreciate all they have been taught.

I am 58, and have projects like this. I do most of my work alone, like it seems that Derek here mostly does. There is a certain way that Derek makes this look fun, and not exhausting. But don't think for a minute that this is not hard work that beats you up every minute. And to do all of this while under the weather - yet keep it entertaining?.. These are qualities that I can appreciate. I went ahead & bought a Bland-National T to support all this. Bravo.

I don't remember the Guys name but a while back he built a 351 LS. Started out with a 351 block and used LS heads. If I remember correctly it was pushing about 500+/- hp. I'd like to say it ended well, but it didn't. They pushed it to the Max. I ate itself up from the inside out. He didn't take it to a machine shop. It wasn't balanced. Good luck on this build, looking forward to seeing it run. Take care and I will Pray 🙏 for healing for you.

Yes 100%. I watch this content and can't help but wonder how many smashed knuckles, black fingernails, deep cuts, sore back and knees and swapping glasses so you can see aren't shown but must be felt making this content because I know when I'm working on cars that how it goes. Also the improvising required do when you need a third hand but you're on your own and have to find a way. It's hardly ever fun, at least not until it's completed and you appreciate the journey was worth the result.

Derek, you probably know that the 6 cylinder Mopar A-body k-members are considerably weaker than the V8 ones for stiffness/handling/hp purposes...and for fitting/clearing V8 aftermarket oil pans. I thought I'd mention it since you said you were gonna hop the ol' girl up to 485 ponies. Adding a V8 k-member and welding in a set of Mopar Performance subframe connectors to convert the factory flexes-under-torque unibody to a full frame is highly recommended with all A-bodies. In my '71 Duster I also installed a leaf spring relocation kit that moved the springs inboard directly under the frame on the back to fit wider tires and wheels underneath the car with a narrowed 8 3/4 rearend with a 3.91 posi and Moser axles. That A-body strengthening recipe makes for a bulletproof daily driver/burnout chassis that can easily handle 500 horses at the crank all day every day AND handle very decently too given the era of manufacture. A full front/rear suspension rebuild with polyurethane bushings (including on a V8 anti-sway bar) does wonders for an A-body for handling and good burnout control as well. And since I went high hp also, so I installed a poly trans mount too...everything that keeps the engine/trans from rocking much protects those oversized Milodon oil pan corners (we also notch the k-member flats ever so slightly for safe, no-hole clearance). ;)

Yup...I owned a 1976 Dodge Aspen, with that venerable slant six...I bought it for $900, about 20 years ago. It had 70 thousand miles on it...Eight years and 100,000 more miles later, I sold it for $500, to a guy who said he could fix the slipping transmission. That car averaged 22mpg in general use, and the power was adequate. My gearhead friend dissed my Aspen, declaring it to be "nothing but a Cab!"...My retort was, "So what?"

Boy. That software noise cancellation sure is fighting with those cicadas! Lol😂 Great stuff. My first car was a 75’ Dart with three on the floor.

What has always amazed me about you is NO profanity. How you can be a mechanic and never swear is beyond my comprehension. I was a flat rate mechanic and could never have manage that. You truly are an exceptional human. OR do you edit that out?? I'd have nothing left to show! 😊😊😊

Thanks for the two in a week, Derek! By the way, I know how much you love your diesel engine oil for flat tappet engines, however…. I use Mobil One high mileage 10w30 in my ‘69 el Camino. It has all the zinc, phosphorus and molybdenum that the old oils had and then some. They actually caution you because your oil pressure increases.

Had a nearly identical Duster a few years ago, was hoping to do a V8 swap, 318 etc. Very interesting how you notched the engine mount without swapping the K-Member. Thanks for the great content, you guys do impressive work both filming and editing. Keep up the great work !

Reminds me of my first swap with my Dad. Slant six for a salvaged 318 on a 66 Dart wagon. My first car. One of my favorite memories!

I grew up in the trunk of one of these Dusters. The back window deck was missing and we used to go from the back seat to the trunk.... cool to see a v8 swap. Always wanted to tinker with one of these. Love the show Derek. Keep on keepin' on man. 👍👏

I hope you are feeling better, Derek. I really like projects like this. I hate seeing old cars scrapped. I expect you have a plan for the rear axle. Maybe wait until the one in the car is done in! Anyway you go it will be fun to watch. Thank you so very much, for my many hours of enjoyment watching your content!

My buddy in high school had a Duster with a 340 wedge and it had fender well headers. They cut through the top of the fender and went down behind the front wheels .

Derek , your videos are so real, clearly no acting or showboating. I really enjoy your videos compared to the others. You have inspired me to start and try for the first time restoration on an old vehicle. I want to start on either mini Cooper or Morris minor or Ford Anglia. Thank you Derek the manner in which you so your show is so original and unscripted. Thank you and keep on doing great. Bless you and your family.

Hey Derek - loving the channel from over here in the UK - your approach to problem solving is inspirational. If you do build another barn I would love to to see if you could make solar panels work for you, what the economics are, how effective they are etc - I know we’d get the real story from you! Thanks for the content!

@@craigpimlott204 Supposed? You have to use your head. Usually ‘installed’ solar is illogically expensive. But it has its place especially when the ROI is short enough. People are spending stupid money on solar but stupid is as stupid does. On the other hand I’ve been offgrid for nearly five years and it works fine for me. Plus where I live has saved me tens of thousands of dollars and I couldn’t do it without solar.

I once had a 318 topped off with 360 heads, a four barrel intake and a carter AVS carburator. The tranny was a Torqueflite 727. Ihad lots of fun with that set up. Have fun.
