I was 16 playing junior hockey when I first saw this movie in '78. The antics, banter, game play, and stereotypes seemed normal to us.

Paul D'Amato's character was John Byrne's inspiration for how the X-man Wolverine should look and act. This character is the closest thing you are gonna see to an accurate live action Wolverine.

There’s a ‘Slap Shot’ themed office in 1st Summit Arena (previously the Cambria County War Memorial), the arena that most of this movie was filmed at, with a lot of memorabilia from the movie in it. Paul Newman had said that Slap Shot was his favorite movie he’d ever done. He mentions ‘The Aces’ a lot in the movie…The Aces is a bar in Cambria City (a subsection of Johnstown), he spent a decent amount of time there during filming and mentions it as a nod to the owner. A lot of the old timers in town loved Paul, as he never acted like a ‘celebrity’ while staying in Johnstown.

Yeah, the latter picture of Olgie is the actual guy who was to play the Olgie Oglethorpe role. He was discharged and Nancy Dowds brother took his spot

Bill "Goldy" Goldthorpe did a year with the old Richmond Wildcats of the (old) Southern Hockey League. The SHL was a real "wild west", rough-and-tumble league - the closest thing to SLAP SHOT imaginable, and Bill was its life-imitates-art Ogie! My friends and I used to jokingly call him "Frosty".

Great movie met the Carlson brothers a month ago with Yvon Barette (Denis Lemieux) at a local hockey game Met also Allan Nichols (Johnny Upton) and Jerry Houser (Dave Killer) with again Yvon Barette in a convention in my town. Im a huge fan I even did a Oggie Oggelthorp cosplay. Here in Quebec 🇨🇦 Slap Shot is very popular since it was translated in french Canadian

Favorite line: "Who hone de Chief?" A late friend of mine and I actually got to ask that question of Steve Carlson once. He was coach of the Johnston Chiefs (yes, the Chiefs!) and was serving a suspension in the upper deck of a game vs. the Richmond Renegades. He was sitting in a corner seat by himself, so of course we had to go inquire of him about the possibility of purchasing da Chief... FTR, he said, "I'm still trying to figure that one out."

Melinda Dillion although not considered an A list actress got to be in 3 pretty iconic movies: Slap Shot, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and A Christmas Story. I was really sad she didn't reprise her role as Ralphie's mother in A Christmas Story Story but knew she was in poor health at that time. And just to update, sadly Paul D'Amato passed away in February of 2024. Fun Fact: Ned Dowd is a successful producer in Hollywood. Some of his credits include The Count of Monte Cristo and Shanghai Noon.

There are a few errors in the video. Like some already mentioned about both "Yvonne" not being named correctly. Yvon Barrette and Yvan Ponton. For Matthew Cowles, you mention he passed away in 2024 instead of 2014, and he passed away before his birthday, so he was 69. For Melinda Dillon, you mention she passed away in July 2023 when it was in January 2023.

Like seeing them but for Brad Sullivan, you said he was 29 in 1977 but died in 2008 at 75...29+31(years from movie release until 2008 passing)=60, not 75...if his age was 75 in 2008 than he was 44 when the movie came out. Also, Matthew Cowles age isn't right either and if he died in 2024, that is quite impressive since we are a year away from then...math didn't really work for this video. Other people's ages are inaccurate as well but oh well.

Good except this is May 26, 2023 and 2 death dates are in the future (July 2023 and 2024). Also I am pretty sure the photo of Ned Dowd today is actually that of Bill "Goldie" Goldthorpe, on whom the Ogie character was loosely based.

This has been made 8months ago and with all that time and i nformation available you cant even get the 2 Québecers names correct !!! They are not called Yvonne but Yvon , Yvonne is the female version of the name. If you cant even bother to do your research...wouldve thought it was written by A.I,but A.I wouldve gotten the names right.....
