I read three other KV books before I decided to revisit this little gem and it really grabbed me. It's post-apocalyptic wackiness in a way only he could write.
Here in Part One, we meet our narrator, Dr Wilbur Daffodil-11 Swain who explains his current circumstances as an old man in the ruins of Manhattan, now called "The Isle of Death." While vague on details as of yet, he does give a brief rundown of where America finds itself as a ruined nation. He would know, he's the last President America had.
