The colonial aspect of talent drain is interesting. As always with neo colonialism I’m interested in who is more culpable? Is it the European clubs under clear capitalist principles trying to buy the best talent to win more games and tournaments and there by make more money. Or is it the Brazilian clubs, for example, who sell their talented players, sacrificing the long term health of their club for short term profit? Again I’m drawn to the notion that capitalism and sports (art generally) are like oil and water respectively.

There's always been an argument about big money's involvement in sports affecting it's fairness. Money is the reason among many why Olympics are kind of a joke now.

Yeah there’s fairness but my concern is more around the commodification and resale. Art generally and sport specifically touches people emotionally. Human emotions represent a psychological weak point, that’s why pathos is so persuasive. So when sports is turned into a commodity it can be privately owned. When that happens those owners gain control over the tribal feelings that sport engenders. Which allows a back door into peoples psychology. People are more disposed to chauvinism, racism you name it when in the midst of a tribal mob. which is what a football stadium is, that’s why the busting fans are sequestered together. Otherwise it’d be a battle in the stands, look at ac and inter Milan if you don’t believe me.
