Another great video. Now you're making it harder for me to stay with my cable line this year... I promised myself I would try and use cable for the first year on the bigger downrigger. Too many pros to braid to not want to switch.

Haha. That's a great question and a long story. The cable went loose and popped off the spool. When trying to fix it, the wire got caught in the pulley and broke and kinked.

Cool, One tip for others, Either Remove the counter before you start, or take off 300, and back on 300. If your stuck with 300ft on you counter when your done installing new line, or in this video was it 900FT lol Your going to be winding that forever by hand! Before you tie off the end of the Braid, just run the scotty up until it hits 999 and it will reset to 0!

Yes. My wire cable is frayed already and we haven't hit the water yet. We're on a steep learning curve...

at 10:52 we do everything the same, but we drop a bit of super glue on the knot and stoppers. We will never use steel again. We took an aluminum boat that was a Salmon repellent to a fish killer when we took the steel off our down riggers. We think the electrical interaction was the culprit.

Switched to braid after losing too many balls to kinking steel cable. Have not had any problems with the braid so far, and there is a lot less of that annoying humming, and it does not try to spring off of the spool either. For tying to the swivel, I just used a palmour knot, which I find is a very quick simple yet strong and slip free knot to tie.

Great Video Thanks! I am gong to do this. I read somewhere that if you originally used the steel cable on the downrigger then should replace the guide eye and end roller as they may be 'roughed up' by the steel cable and might damage the braid. Its a pain though, anyone had to do this?

Tried braid. Had less hum, but no noticeable blowback reduction. Problem with braid is if you fish near bottom around a lot of rocky structure and get hung up as I often do, it can get sliced on sharp rocks while trying to pull it loose even at 200lb test. Lost two $50 cannonballs within a week of switching to braid. Went back to wire.
