Not gonna lie, I think this is my new favorite movie

It's been a while since I sat down and watched this movie! I'd like to just say, as a trans guy, I understand how some people could watch it and come away with it being super offensive, but from my perspective it always felt like a metaphor for being forcibly closeted. The horror of having your autonomy stripped because a parental figure wants you to present as a different gender from your own is a very real one, and for me, a movie that revolves around a little boy being forced to fulfill a feminine role like that really makes me feel seen. I agree that it's not handled in the best way, and I know it's not a perspective that everyone can understand, but I'm glad it exists!

I think this is probably my 10th time listening to this. James and Chelseas pure joy and Joel and Gress' pure shock at how bonkers it is are all just so amazing

Honestly that last scene with Angela haunts me so much. The face, the noises she makes...I could only watch it because I knew you guys were with me (in spirit).

This is one of my favorite things on KZfaq. Thank you so much for introducing me to this movie - I have watched it along with you guys now at least 5 times over the years since you made this. I have also introduced it to about half a dozen people, and the reactions are great. I'm usually sitting there like JAJ and Chelsea the whole time, just so freaking excited, and while everyone is so confused, half have been SUPER into it, just like me, or else they still despise me for introducing it to them. It's great. Thanks again. I love all of the new content, but I'm glad I can still revisit this stuff from time to time.

Okay so I recently started helping your Patreon (idk to phrase that uhhh I give you my money) and so I’ve been listening to the Practical ‘Flix commentary tracks. I’ve literally had nightmares about this movie since I watched it. That final shot pops into my mind sometimes. Thanks for ruining my life hahaha

This is awesome! I watched Sleepaway camp when I was a kid a loooong time ago. Truth be told though, I don't think 'Angela' confirmed that seeing her father in a gay relationship threw her over the edge, so if I were to remake this movie (And thank god, I don't) The only way I could see it passing is if 1) the kids where more fully aware of the dad's sexuality and okay with this 2) the brother and sister flashback was showing the two swapping clothes or something and having fun with the concept of gender identity, and 3) reaaaaaally play up the crazy of Ricky's mom for wanting a girl. That would be the only way to really make it some what 20xx friendly. But that's just my thoughts.

this movie is amazing.and your commentary is amazing. I am changed. The movie is hilarious and disturbing in so many ways, and the campyness is so perfect. Its so problematic but in a way you HAVE to talk about afterwards.I dont feel like many modern movies elicit that kind of response anymore.

Wow, what a movie. I personally really enjoyed it, and I think part of the reason it's so off-putting is BECAUSE it''s so realistic. Personally, I don't have a problem with the twist and I think it was very well developed. I was shocked by it, and throughout the movie, I was really intrigued by the story and I felt captivated the entire time. Idk, I liked it.

I watched along with you! This is like, my 3rd time watching the movie but it felt like watching with friends. This is definitely one of my favourite slashers of all time, and honestly, I and a couple of my trans friends, don’t find the twist problematic. We see it as an allegory on forcing gender onto people when they’d rather be who they feel they are.

i enjoyed this practical flix! quick side comment either the movie was too loud or yall were to quiet but idk. also this was good movie.. i understand the complexity of talking about the ending... i dont think it could be made today but it does bring up a topic of gender identity but not anything close to being transgender. more of the problem with parents, cause i know there is some things where parents force identities on kids cause of fucked reasons.. so thats my take on that.

The movie is a product of it's time and I do not believe there is a way to properly discuss the film.

Anybody think James J is really mean to Joel? Like it's hard to listen to. I know they're friends and it's playful, but James takes it a little too far sometimes. It seems a bit toxic.
