From an engineering standpoint there is one hole in a straw. Known as a 'through hole' created at one end of the cylinder that penetrates the entire straw's length. If the hole does not go the entire length of the depth it would still be one hole but would be considered a 'blind hole'. For the pants arguement if I wanted to make a pair of pants using the minimum number of simple shapes I'd need one ovular cylander and two circular cylanders attached to make a vague pant shape, thus to hollow all three cylanders I'd require three seperate through holes before attaching the three cylanders as to leave no gaps in the middle. (basically imagine making pants out of cardboard tubes)

Any three-dimensional solid object with a tunnel completely bored between two points is, by definition, a drinking straw. Perhaps not always a *good* one. People forget that drinking straws technically have flat faces on either end where the hole is. Imagining a straw with no hole helps visualize this.

Towards the hole discussion: This is just 2d vs. 3d geometrics. A straw has 2 holes, but 1 tunnel. A hole is a empty circular shape on another shape (i.e. the material of the pants) while a tunnel is an empty space inside something ending in any number of holes (1 hole is for example a pan, while a straw has 2, and even more are possible with i.e. pants having 3 or more [if you also count pockets etc.])
