I had an AP math class two semesters ago that assigned a TON of homework, and I would generally stay up to 3:00 and get 2-5 hrs of sleep to try and keep up with my own "homework schedule" for that week. The teacher for that class had the most monotone, quiet, try-not-to-fall-asleep-challenge voice ever. I fell asleep in that class maybe twice, but I happened to sit next to a friend who would squeeze my knees whenever I fell asleep. For some reason, I have this strange reaction where if my knees are squeezed, I instantly jolt awake. Drawback is it only works when someone else does it. The problem occurred not in the AP math class, but in the class immediately after. At the end of math class I would hobble out of class half asleep and say to myself, "YES! X days without incident!" Then realize I had Psychology afterwards. Psychology was a fun class, and the teacher was great, and also looked exactly like Professor Pym from Ant-Man. But it was an easy class, and after being drained by math, I would head-bob like you describe for most of the entire class, and I fell asleep about a dozen times. I got an A in both classes, even though i barely skid past math class with a 89.95 that my instructor rounded up. In psychology, I learned how to stay awake in that situation. Usually. What I would do is hold a pencil in my left hand, and hover the eraser just above the table. Whenever I felt the pencil touch the table, I would know I was just about to head bob, and I would remind myself to stay awake, and it would much lessen the intensity of my head bobs. But then some days I just said "fuck it my other classes are more important." And fell asleep TL;DR hover your pencil vertically with the eraser almost but not quite touching the table, when it touches the table you remind yourself to stay awake and hold back up the pencil. Greatly reduces head bob intensity.

As a professional University sleeping student, I recommend you to avoid some boring classes and to take some rest instead. It may sounds foolish but think in term of productivity: when you fall asleep in a class you are wasting your time because you aren't listening and aren't having a good rest either. So, stay home and do some homeworks/studying when you will be well rested. Be aware that actually working in your home/appartment takes a lot of will. I feel asleep in school all the time, and in exams too. Once it was amazing I was able to, the class were noisy and the teacher had lost control but I slipped into sleep and got punished for disruptive behavior even though I wasn't one of the people shooting, or throwing stuff.

I fall asleep facing forwards sometimes. So I had a swim meat and I was really tired so I was looking at the dashboard in front of a stoplight when all the sudden I was at my mom's house. My dad showed me a picture of me looking forwards out the window with my eyes closed and my mouth open, drooling. It was so weird to hear that I've fallen asleep standing up and looking forward like this as a child when I couldn't walk. In 10h grade, I moved to North Carolina and found out the freakin English classes there were like... 5th grade level easy! So everyday I would get my work done in 5 minutes and sleep for the hour or so period. Sometimes if I had already napped in Earth Science (another easy class because its just.. Basic science from 8th??), I'd stay awake and help the kids who didn't understand the assignments. For the first time, I was a freakin GENIUS (at least, how the kids in class saw me) So whenever we would have a sub and they'd try to yell at me for walking in and going straight to sleep, the kids who I helped would jump to my defence. Like, I remember one of the subs shaking my shoulder to wake me up and the kid beside me went "Hey hey hey, she's fine. She gets her work done in a second, don't worry about her, just let her sleep!" and sure as heck, when the sub passed out the assignment, I woke up, did it and knocked the frick out instantly. The sub would always get huffy but lol what u gonna do?? Good times... Miss that school.

That is why I always read ahead so that when I wake up I don't miss anything. Hard work pays off ya know. This paid off the most in fourth grade when I finished this 7 page passage when the class was only on the 2nd page and I fell asleep. I was thankful because I remember waking up for like 30 seconds from the noise and from half of those times I remember my classmates doing these dances for animals that were dumber than the dumbest person in my class, and I was one of the few people directly BEHIND the teacher, due to my teacher being in one of the 4 portable classrooms with no nailed in desk and my teacher having a wide selection of flexible seats that were spread everywhere in the classroom.

So you had Professor Binns for your Newt History class got it. And tea or coffee helps, but having healthy snacks and lots of water will help help you stay awake in a healthier way (the only downside is you’ll have to visit the restroom a lot more). But during my all nighters I find continuous amounts of caffeine to make me sick a lot faster so I usually do water myself.

I keep getting sleepy in class so while I'm listening I'll be moving my legs around. Basically slowly straightening them out, then lowering them back to the bent position, and repeating with one leg before switching. I'll also stretch my arms and change sitting positions pretty often. It's working so far ^^b

the year before I would start upper secondary school (I think that's what it's called. In Sweden we call it gymnasium. It's three years long from you're like 16 to 18) Anyway. My last year in grade school was the year of the Swine flu. And I got vaccinated. I don't know how widely known it is but a lot of kids who took this vaccine ended up getting narcolepsy. I'm one of them. So my first year after grade school was when I would really start to get sick and I couldn't stay awake at all. I slept through History A and Society A (I don't know what else to call it. We studied like government and economy and stuff) Then in my third year we had something that's like a mix between biology and science. And that teacher also had this kind of lulling voice. Mind you, by then I had mostly stopped falling asleep because my medication had started working. But I just couldn't stay awake... So I know your struggles. A trick is, if you feel like you're starting to fall asleep, ask to go to the toilet and wash your face with cold water. or if you can have a water bottle during class, drinking can help too.

I've only fallen asleep in class once and I will never do it again. I tend to snore. loudly. My Spanish teacher wasn't too fond of my snoring while she tried to read a book to the class. The issue was, I hadn't gotten much sleep I had already read the book so, needless to say, I went out almost immediately. On the up side, I had a nice nap, however, as soon as I woke up (near the end of class) my teacher went on a little rant about how if we weren't committed to learning the language we shouldn't have joined Spanish 3 (most people in the class had already taken the 2 required language classes and this was the third recommended class). She looked at me times during her rant. After class, my friend told me about how I wouldn't stop snoring and that she couldn't get me to wake up. That was during my freshman year, the reason I was in that class wasn't because I was a junior taking my 3rd year of Spanish, but because I'm fluent in Spanish. I had been switched from Spanish 1 to Spanish 3 because of that so jokes on her I committed to the language. I ended up taking her class for 3 years after that so we ended up being chill after she realized I was a freshman whowas already fluent had already read the book. She still didn't appreciate that I fell asleep, but she was pretty nice to me afterwards. I never got over that embarrassment though, so I haven't slept in a class since. 10/10 would take her class again.

I never sleep in class. But that was challenged the first day of..... SEVENTH GRADE (a few months ago). I was going into an academic center, meaning I was in a highschool building, at least I thought it was just that. I ignored the "academic" part when I applied. I mostly focused on the awesome drawing and painting courses, the pool, and the fact that I would get to take Japanese. I had and still have, fairly good grades. The only problem was the insane amount of homework. I would get 3 to four hours of homework on a normal day. This caused me alot of sleep deprivation because occasionally (normally on Wednesdays for some reason actually) on of my classes would assign a crap ton of homework. So I would finish my homework, watch KZfaq for a little, go to bed at like 12:30, and have my reoccurring dream about being stabbed with a staff by Liza the Alpha. Then I would wake up, go to school, get coffee (or not have enough money and suffer) the hang out on the bridge trying to cling on to reality. English was my first period, so it was the hardest to stay awake. Normally instead of sleeping, I spaced out for blocks of time. I was space out for five minutes, do whatever we were doing, then space out for another five minutes. I normally doodle to prevent this from happening, but scince my brain is too tired to come up with any good ideas..... I'm basically a human statue.
