Following our hike around Scawt Hill (check out last week's video if you haven't already) the route home took us past Slemish, so naturally we stopped by for a visit.
Slemish, historically called Slieve Mish (from Irish Sliabh Mis, meaning 'Mis's mountain'), is a Volcanic Plug situated near Ballymena in County Antrim. Quite distinctive in appearance, it dominates the surrounding landscape.
Slemish Mountain is the legendary first known Irish home of Saint Patrick. According to legend, following his capture and being brought to Ireland as a slave, Patrick worked as a shepherd at Slemish Mountain for about six years, where he is believed to have found God.
It's a short, relatively straight forward hike, which offers high reward, and incredible views for low-moderate effort.
