April 15, 2019, the world holds its breath: Notre-Dame de Paris, France’s leading monument to which 13 million visitors flock each year, is in flames.
The attic, the wooden roof, and the spire by the architect Viollet-Le-Duc are collapsing. But in the midst of this nightmare, a miracle occurs: This masterpiece of Gothic architecture of 5,500m2 finally stands firm.
With the help of unpublished archives, interviews with top experts, reconstructions, and computer-generated images, this film will unlock the secrets of Notre-Dame’s construction, the techniques invented and deployed by its builders, the threats it has faced over nearly nine centuries, and the plans for its future renovation.
Documentary: THE ETERNAL NOTRE-DAME

I literally cried, as a history buff, watching Notre Dame burn. It was devastating. And knowing how close it came to collapse…all credit to those masons that built that beautiful building and the firefighters that saved it. This was a great documentary. My favorite book, Pillars of the Earth, made me interested in the construction of these magnificent pieces of art. I hope to see it with my own eyes one day. Thank you for posting this.

I’m a history nut. I’m also Catholic. As I watched Notre Dame burn, I was in tears. Since then, I’ve watched videos like this and been amazed with the masons of 8 centuries past, who erected such a beautiful and stalwart structure. It’s been fascinating also seeing the “archeology of Notre Dame. God Bless Notre Dame, Paris, and France. May she stand at least another thousand years. 🇺🇸🇫🇷

Having been blessed to travel the world, of all the amazing places I visited, Paris is the place that changed my life. I have visited many times and fallen in love with so much of France, but Paris vibrates with a special magic that leaves you haunted, and longing to return. Not personally religious, each of my visits requires a visit to Notre Dame, to check on it and say I’m back for more magic and art. To see her burn, I was sure was the death of me. I have not visited since she burned, but will return when she is back to her old self!

There was renovation work happening at the time, and rags + combustible oils were left in close proximity to each other, or some other unfortunate accident, I recall hearing at the time. If you wanted to, you could read a newspaper article from just after the fire in 2019, and learn something instead of speculating.

Although I do not believe in organized religion, I do have a strong spiritual core. That I believe everything has a beginning and comes from something. The original builders cut down massive oaks, leaving the trunk to grow back. In 50 or 60 years, the tree was ready to be used again. The soul of Notre Dame is restored, when rebuilding the 'forest roof', they return and utilize the trees left by the original generation.

No, they didn't. Or if they did, they didn't make it public. Despite what the tinfoil hatters and racists are spewing though, there's no proof of a deliberate act. But whether the fire was accidental, linked to negligence, if it had something to do with the restoration work that was going on before the fire (cigarette butt, sparks, etc.) or whether it's something to do with fatly wiring installed by the clergy, there's still no answer.

what amazes me from travelling the world is how certain things become the most visited, what made this so great? being huge? being catholic? why? there's so much beauty out there and this is not the best or deserved to this extent, there's other bigger more amazing, there's other already destroyed and no one cares there's other smaller more beautiful, there's even so much that could have been done to Notre Dame that would make it look grander but wasn't done. Most people don't know and can't tell and go just because of the hype, don't believe the hype and learn something more about style of all kinds before you jump on the bandwagon ad go yes, LOL, FYAMF. tooo funny.

Honestly I have never been impressed with the catholic religion . But Not really Dame was unique. The architecture of these old structures are priceless. I remember it was said it wouldn't be rebuilt and finished till 2050. That was a crock of shit. As they said it is wealth and had huge income. That's what Notre Dame is a money pit. The key is money take note the word God was never said in the documentary. It is a place of hope prayer and worship for people. I think keeping it as original is the key. Although it's historical and each day adds to it's history. What don't like is how they lied about taking until 2050 . They should have said unknown how long and how much could be saved. I'm not your most religious person but I realize the importance to the people. Prayer is good no matter where it is. Have they forgotten the Virgin Mary appeared in a dump. She appeared to Bernadette now known as Saint Bernadette. By the way the movie made about Saint Bernadette original movie is one of the most well made movies. A dear friend Joseph Barret/ known as Joey brought the movie to me to see.it changed my life.

Comme si c'était devenu impensable de laisser parler un homme (ou une femme) "à voix nue". Pour moi, ces musiques additionnelles omniprésentes ruinent l'intérêt du documentaire.

"Full documentary"? Hardly. You left out the part where the fire department showed up on 4-15-19 after receiving a report of a fire in the ceiling; they couldn't find the problem so they left. 30 minutes later, when the firefighters got back, the structure was completely engulfed in flames. The majority of the damage was their fault. My dog could do a better job.

I'm kinda curious for a source on this because everything I can find online in terms of timeline states that the first alarm was around 18.20. building security went to check but the labelling on the alarm system was confusing and they checked the wrong area. Since the system had thrown up many false alarms in the past, and they couldn't see any indications of fire (the fire may not have been visible from the area they checked), they cancelled the alert and left the area. A second alarm went off at around 18.43. Fire was confirmed and firefighters called at 18.51 and firefighters arrived appropriately 10 minutes later.

All churces built in France before 1905 are owned by the French government. Donations to rebuild Notre Dame were NOT made to the Catholic church, but to France. The Catholic church is merely allowed to use the building, but it does not own it, nor does it really have much, if any, control over it.
