SLICE

4 жыл бұрын

At an altitude of nearly 4,000 meters, Sking is one of the most isolated villages in the Himalayan region of Zanskar. In just three months, from August to October, the Zanskaris have to harvest and store all their food for the coming year. All the women-young and old alike-work nonstop, from dawn to dusk, and worry about the arrival of winter.
Filmed from the point of view of a subjective camera by a young female ethnologist, "Himalaya, Land of Women" offers a sensitive and poetic immersion in the life of four generations of women during harvesting season. We share their rare intimacy and gradually grow attached to them.

I would really like to appreciate the work that this woman had put into this video, I belong to this Himalayan region of Zanskar and never felt the beauty of my place until I saw this video, now I'm realizing how unique and beautiful my place is, I'm happy to realize that this stillness and its cut off from the outer world makes it more ravishing and charming. Thank you so much for this video and I would really like to appreciate the fact that she spoke the local language soo well❤

The richness in gratitude is amazing that is shown here. We must be more in gratitude and humble of the gifts we have been given. In the states it's hard not to be free from the evils of big government and the desire to control people. I'm sad that it's not as happy in the modern technology world as it should be with the abuse of authority. May God bless you and your families through the difficult times you may have. 🙏 ❤it.

So was I until the moment she denied a blind, 80 year old woman's request for her sheepskin to lay down on. I hope she experiences the plane ride at some point in her life. The great grandmother, blind and still working the fields at 80 years old. I was sad when she died, she is such an inspiration. They all are such happy people. We could take a lesson from them in that you don't need much to make you smile.

After seeing this it shows that these people are human just like us and just as much as we are curious about them they’re curious about us. I also think there are plenty of people who would happily take this life for the sake of simplicity. There is a peace in simplicity.

So beautiful, the true meaning of living, family, love and simplicity. I love it when the mother said I have everything I need here. What a joyous way to live.

Just watched this with my wife and we both were touched by the loving portrait the ethnologist conveys. We really felt drawn to the people. The film maker's familiarity with the people who consider her their sister and daughter--is clearly hard won and shows the power of speaking people's language. I don't think ChatGPT would know enough to ask how many rugs are on a plane! 🙏

You cannot help but watch these people with great affection and respect. In my travels, in some very remote Philippine villages in Mindanao, I was told by a young man, "you will never be us". He meant at the time (I think), 'come and learn and let's be friends but you will leave again.' I'll never forget that. He trusted me enough to say that..... Thank you Marianne!

The great grandmother was blind but she was still working and with a sickle! How remarkable. When it was said she died 3 days later, I wept for her. Why did I do it? Because I know I like these people, clearly they’re my kind of people...

Such a deep documentary. Really made me think about life. The children are wise beyond their years especially the 13yo girl watching the sheep. What an intelligent articulate young lady for someone who’s never been to school. The whole village seems wonderful. Very peaceful and content. Super hard working too

Beautiful. I’m really pleased to stumble onto this film maker. Their remoteness protects their way of life and in essence their life is simple and uncomplicated. The Indian Government should look to protect these lands from commercialism but at the same time provide education and medical facilities.

Marianne It’s a blessing to have seen such a marvelous documentary about how people live theirs lives just with what’s nature offered us Also how important the family is? Grandma ended up living with grand kids. Kid ended living with uncle/aunties. If I can trade my American life with them I would not hesitate to do so. Merci beaucoup

I couldn't help but notice how well behaved the children are. Way mature for their ages. The work ethics are in place because their very lives depends on it. I saw wonderful compassionate intelligent people who love, suffer, are sometimes lonely but above all survivors. I promise each one of those people know what it is to go hungry. Powerful documentary. God bless those people.
