Rory was amazing live, often playing a set of 3+ hours which would leave the audience exhausted ! Another slide example that is worth checking out: Souped Up Ford - Rory Gallagher, Old Grey Whistle Test, Shepherds Bush Empire, 02 March 1976

I love Rory for all the talent and plus he had a profoundly beautiful heart and soul it was a wonderful person kind and respectful to everyone humble and he gave every bit of himself to his music and his audience's. No one ever gave more than he did. I love this man for all of eternity the wonderful one of a kind beautiful man and talented superbly.. multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, singer, bandleader, performer, producer and just a wonderful beautiful human being.. the one and only angel Rory.

Hey Mike. I had the great pleasure of seeing this lineup about a year later. One word......Magical. Rory was perhaps the most underrated player on the planet. I've seen most of the great bands of that era including DP twice in 3 days in 1984 and Rory beat them all. Great showman, great player, great rhythm section and yes the bass player killed it for two hours . If you haven't heard Stagestruck - a live recording of this line up Rory, bassist Gary (Gerry?) McEvoy and drummer Ted McKenna, do yourself a favour and get a copy. Highlights of a wonderful album include Shadow Flame, Follow Me, Shinkicker, Wayward Child, ..all of them actually. Just listen OK???

Rory stayed in standard tuning for everything - straight ahead rock boogie and blues with the Guitar Hero thrown in. Underrated in his time but loved by millions and still leads the Irish legends of rock along with Phil Lynott and Gary Moore. Glen McAvoy on bass and Ted McKenna on drums was Rory's best lineup.

@@mikenagoda David! That's Paul's dad. Slight brain fart there. Sorry. Yeah, Paul's solo album 'Back Street Crawler' is great. The Groundhogs are a British blues rock band around at the same time as Rory, usually performing as a power trio. They're still playing, though Tony McPhee (guitar and vocals) is the only original member left. Unfortunately it's hard to find good live footage, but there's a video of "Tony McPhee, Groundhog Blues 1985" posted by eccentricman01 that showcases Tony's playing. Tony joined Rory on stage at one of his concerts for the encore. That's out there, but there's no live footage and the sound quality is poor. For audio only "Split Part 1" or "Eccentric Man" are good ones.

Hello from New Brunswick, Canada. I discovered your channel because of this Rory reaction. He was an Irish guitar god. They have a statue of him in Cork. During the war in Ireland in the 70's he was the only artist willing to play in Northern Ireland. He had to get permission from the The Comapny (IRA?) Which he did. His IRISH TOUR '74 is a MUST listen. You will hear different quality in some songs because in some areas of Ireland, they couldnt use their own sound men. The bass player's name is Jerry McAvoy. He was with Rory from the very beginning when Rory started his first band, TASTE. He stayed with Rory until 1991. They fed off each other. Rory passed away from complications after having a liver transplant, in 1994. For your next song by Rory, I suggest this live version of DO YOU READ ME kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bqmcqdR-m8rOZ4E.html You also seem to be into drums. I'd like to introduce you to the best drummer to pick up a pair of sticks. And that man is NEIL PEART (Rip) and the Canadian band, RUSH. Just 3 guys from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Formed in 1968, they have a music catalog that spans 40 years. Neil, aka THE PROFESSOR, wasn't just a drummer, he was a Percussionist who ALSO wrote the lyrics for their songs. GEDDY LEE is the lead vocalist who also plays Bass guitar AND keyboards/synthesizer. Has pedals to play one while plying the other with his hands. And ALEX LIFESON is a guitar god who credits Rory Gallagher about teaching him "Pick Harmonics". RUSH opened for Rory in 1974. Then 8 years later, Rory opened for RUSH. Check these out from RUSH TOM SAWYER kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l9t8da-cmc_GcZ8.html DER TROMMLER (Percussion instrumental) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gr2CgLJ7tqrNfIk.html R30 OVERTURE (Instrumental medley) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7mEoq6Ux73eYZ8.html LEAVE THAT THING ALONE (instrumental) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bL6ApbF41eDJd30.html WORKING MAN kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qa9lidhz39WRgZc.html FLY BY NIGHT kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pKuGd72dmrvafmg.html I did subscribe as well....

I love to hear somebody who knows music theory break down a live performance of Rory. He is amazing on the acoustic guitar playing old street performance delta blues. That was how he learned to play as a kid. He listened to the radio stations from america that played blues, jazz and rock and roll for overseas military bases. He was facinated with the blues. During his career he was asked to join Rolling stones and cream. The story of his meant to be jam with the stones is crazy. Keith Richards did not turn up as he was out of his head in his hotel room, the same hotel where the jam was meant to be. Rory waited hours but eventually left as he was to play a gig in japan next night. He was his own man and played because he loved it and lovedhis fans. He played with Ginger Bakers solo band and also jack bruces project. He was a musicians musicin who was sought as session player by lots of bands. Brian may actually met rory after a gig when he ws 16 or so. He asked rory how he got his sound so rory actually sat down with this kid who should not even have been there and showed him his set up. All he used was a rangemaster treble boost and vox AC 30 amps with an 1960s Strat all turned up to 11,lol. The bass player is Gerry MC Avoy who was with him over 20 years. and the drummer is Ted Mc kenna.. Also check out Tastes performance at the isle of wight festival. Considered to be one of the best live performances ever caught on film. Tate was Rorys first band and were amazing. They were low on the lineup but when the organiser saw them play he recorded the whole show, which was expensive back then and the film stock was meant to be kept mainly for headliners. The sound he gets with such a basic setup is ridiculous, the way he bends the strings to get dfferent sound is genius. Finally he is being rediscovered by millions now but he died far too young. Prescription pills and being an alcoholic led to his sad passing but his legend grows.

I like to see a real musician analyze Rory's music, although he may have seemed very simple rocknroll theres so much more to his music, like real love and genius. And maybe a bit punk in it too by those years, it's said that Rory went to see the Sex Pistols and was really impressed by their energy, he said that they couldn't play, but he was amazed by the energy, and also he got really disappointed by his last album after seeing them, he said that after them he found it really bland and threw it to the bin, his brother Donal couldn't believe that six months of recording went to trash. You can find all these anecdotes in books about Rory.
