Flying in the Pool - Adventures of a Pan Am Steward - Slides, Rafts and Fires ~ Jet Emergency Training
This is a video version of the chapter in the book Flying in the Pool that describes what Pan Am's Jet Emergency Training was like during May of 1979 right at the pinnacle of the airlines history.
Our basic training took place at the Pan Am In-Flight Service Training Academy at Honolulu. Our emergency evacuation exercises used a B707 emergency slide and the open ocean survival training was conducted at the Holiday Inn Airport swimming pool. (other chapters detail additional emergency and life saving training)
This video was made using the audio from the audio book of Flying in the Pool and photos taken during basic training (and some submitted by FB friends). I snuck an underwater (Nikonos) camera into training and photographed pretty much everything, was alomst kicked out when management caught wind. Using these high quality images this is a rare behind the scenes look at what Pan Am's Jet Emergency Training was really like ...
Note: in the printed book this is Chapter 5 for techincal reasons in the audio book it is Chapter 6. This video was made in high definition and can be viewed full screen.
