The Sling TSi Kit is the airplane Sling fans have been waiting for. All of the style, economy and practical utility of the Sling 4, but with more SPEED! Harnessing the power of the Rotax 915iS or the all new Rotax 916iS turbo-charged, fuel-injected and FADEC engine, the Sling TSi maintains the quiet, comfortable and smooth ride with an extra dose of horsepower.
The Sling TSi features an all-new high speed wing design: optimized for the power and weight of the aircraft. The leading edge of the wing is flush-riveted for low drag. The forward fuselage and empennage are also flush-riveted. The landing gear is airfoiled, low-drag wheel pants incorporated and there is a new cowling design.
The interior, seating, ventilation and heating are improved for passenger comfort and luxury.
Although the Sling TSi shares a similar appearance and the distinctive “Sling attitude” with the Sling 4, it only shares about 20% parts in common. It is a completely new aircraft, with different design goals than the Sling 4. The main result of these changes is SPEED.

Just found your hangar tour and now I'm working my way along the Ep's. I'm surprised to see that you're not painting the bits before you assemble them?

I struggle with trying to understand all of the fuss with priming 6061 T6 aluminum. So I mostly remain quite about it trying not to rock the boat. But since you ask, 6061 aluminum is considered to be non-corrosive due to its protective oxide film that forms naturally on its surface. That film is highly adherent and provides excellent corrosion resistance. The oxide film is responsible for preventing the underlying aluminum from reacting with the environment, making it suitable for applications where exposure to air or water is expected. The corrosion resistance of 6061 is also enhanced by its composition, which includes elements such as magnesium and silicon. These elements also help to improve the alloy’s resistance to corrosion. And, the 6061-T6 temper also has excellent corrosion resistance, which is further improved by the addition of a small amount of chromium. If the Sling was constructed with anything other than 6061 T6, such as 2024 T3, I would certainly consider priming or alodining.

Did you debur everything in that first day, too, or did you find it wasn't needed?

Very little deburring is needed. The parts are perfect and just beautiful!

Won't the markers leave a residue that causes corrosion over time?

I've not seen that happen before. The surfaces will be both mechanically and chemically etched before painting removing all residues.

Great walkthrough and tips. I'll be following your build. Have you had a chance to sit in the cockpit? Did I read in the Sling Forum that you are 6'2"? I'm 6'4" and considering the TSI.

I have not. But In one of the walk around videos of the TSi that Sling posted (can't remember which one), they demonstrated how the seats adjust for taller people. And I have not heard anyone state that they could not fit because of their height.

Rob, can you share the trim motor wire specs? Did it come with the kit?

I'm not quite there yet. After the HS, I will be assembling the VS. It is suggested to work on the elevator last in the emmpanage kit as it is the most complex and takes the most build time.
