This is good information! We currently subscribe to Sling because we dumped the expensive programming we had with Direct TV. In addition to Sling we also have Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime; also we are using an external TV antenna which brings in all of our local TV stations. The system I set up in my house far exceeds anything we ever experienced in the past from Direct TV or Dish Network. So far, so good.

Thanks for this review... I really wanted to try sling but after listening to this review I know this will not work for at this time. The two big thing I need is, to be able to stream to multiple devices at the same time and watch previous episodes... especially for this price... otherwise it's not worth it for me.

Thank you for your review. I got on here to see if others are having constant buffering issues, the buffering is driving me nuts! I know it's the Sling Tv, it doesn't happen with Hulu or Netflix.

Thank you TekHeadz for your in-depth review. In my opinion, I think Dish really kicked themselves in the ass with these disadvantages. Having the ability to watch what you want and when you want is key in today's world. People don't always have the time to sit down and watch a live stream. The disadvantages definitely outweigh the advantages.

I added Sling Blue & Orange on my Roku, with Netflix, Amazon Prime including HBO, and Hulu. I dropped Fios & all those channels I never watched. I grew up with 3 national channels in the 60's - two of which went off-air after midnight, and a nothing PBS (plus two local stations). I pay less than eighty bucks a month, & I like my options so much better now.

Also you can stream to more than one device if you do the Blue or Orange and Blue package.

I was a skeptic......decided seven free days of Sling, why not try it out. We love it. My wife and I are in our late 50's. Sling offers what we want. Plus we pull in 22 local stations with a HD antenna in the attic. I've read negative reviews and do not understand the problem. It states up front what they offer. No more no less. Do your home work folks. Sling is a good bargain for $20 a month.

Just so people will know, AMC and IFC are now on Sling TVs Best of Live TV (the $20 Core package). They also have the Hollywood Extra Package for $5 and that includes all the Epix movie channels and Sundance TV.

I currently have Netflix , and a Firestick , by adding Sling my "TV" bill is only $29 a month , I think this combo is the way to go and cheap! In my bedroom I have a digital antenna for local news and local channels and that's free. With this I feel I get everything I need.

Will this work for someone who still only uses an old CRT TV made in the 1980s?

Sling is a good attempt...but falls far short of what it could actually accomplish. Offer streaming to more than one device at a time. Either offer additional channels or offer a wider variety of channels and allow the customer to pick the 20 channels they want...I'm talking about non-premium channels...i.e. like The Weather Channel, FoxNews, ...etc. Those are not even on Sling's service. Offering a cheap price but with mostly channels people do not want doesn't accomplish anything. I had thought about getting this service...but the one device only at a time did it for me. I am going with the Playstation Vue service...much much more options. Thanks for the review.

I agree with your review. Honestly, the commercials were a bit more that I could handle. We were watching through Xbox and we could get through one or two commercials and then the commercials would freeze the screen. We could hear the show but not see it. It was very frustrating! This also occurred on our PC. We canceled and moved on.

They just added NBCSN which is the channel i am really excited about. Comes in the blue package which also has FS1 and BeIn sports for $25. That pretty much is everything i need for NHL hockey with Playoffs, My EPL soccer,La Liga soccer and whatever FS1 has at the moment (Bundesliga). I will be using it on my Xbox One

You should do an update on this, they allow 3 devices now and ironed out those issues you mentioned.

Thanks for the review. I didn't realize several things that you mentioned and will have to keep those in mind when we finally cut the cord. Pretty disappointing to hear only one device and only live broadcasts without an on demand option. Must have NBCSN and Disney and the ability to watch something I miss when I want to. I can't always be awake at 2am to watch a live Formula One event.

my cable bill jumped up to $93 because I have to pay for the 2 boxes,first year don't have to pay for them,but did the trial for sling tv few months ago,i liked it,im dumping my cable service and getting sling tv.

Thanks man - I was about to sign up for that service and drop DirecTV. There is NO WAY I am paying $20 a month for 1 stream. We have multiple users in the house and that would totally screw us. They need to have 4-5 streams for $20. Also, the channel line up is crap, even at their $40 a month offering. By the time you add on all the "extra" packages they conveniently screw you over into purchasing if you want better channels, you might as well stick with Cable or DirecTV.... Oh and you STILL have to pay for better internet too so you can use it, AND it slows your internet WAY down when someone would be watching TV.

I'm a cord cutter and have Sling TV, I watch TWD, FTWD & Damien..I'm ok with it. I hope they allow you to watch on multiple tv's.

Thanks for the review. Like you, the single stream device is a deal breaker as well as no DVR (so to speak). with it on demand, why wouldn't you be able to forward/reverse, etc? Rhetorical question... Great review though! I've had the best luck just negotiating my out of contract service w/ Dish every 6 months, threatening to cancel. I still spend $60/month but have 4 rooms, DVR and great lineup.. I guess I'll keep doing that for now.

Thanks for the review. But the fact that you won't recommend SLING TV is crazy. $20 a month is what you would pay for a basic cable tv package. Looking at the choices, Hulu has really a terrible service. And Netflix doesn't have every tv show on it, and they get popular shows late--like really late. And the fact that you would recommend buying complete full seasons for a tv show that you don't necessary know you like is crazy as well. I think SLING TV is the best alternative for those of us who don't want to spend money on cable tv but want great shows.

They don't incorporate local broadcast TV. That would have been a nice addition. However, Boomerang is available which I could never find in Chicago cable TV.

in 2017 the Orange pkg is still one device/$20.00; Blue pkg is 3 devices at $25.00; and can get the combo pkge (both colors) which will get you 4 device viewing. However, I don't just want "devices" viewing, I want 2 tvs at once without having to buy another amazon firetv stick! All in all, it will still be $100 less than I'm paying now for cable!

I trialed Slingtv thru my Chromecast equipped Vizio 1080 tv and there was a pronounced delay between video and audio. Lots of breakup on video also. However, commercials and previews however were perfect. What's my problem??

I live in new England and currently have nesn on my cable. will I be able to get it on sling?

Is SlingTV still a one device stream service? They should at least allow 2 devices, since my 11 year old likes to watch the Cartoon Network, and I anything but! I was seriously considering SlingTV as well, but only if the stated price allows at least 2 devices. And how would that work anyway.... would I have to buy a second ROKU stick for my other HDTV, and just punch in a code? Thanks.

i signed up for their orange + blue which allows 1 stream for orange channels and 3 streams for the blue so not bad. Also, they supposedly have 50 hours of recording capability for another $5 per mo. but didn't see anything about it on their web site. Thanks for the pros and cons.

playstation vue will record shows in a season and allow playback on multiple devices at once. mid package around 35.00.also has more channels.

Sling TV is a live streaming service, and now the Channel Master DVR+ has the Sling app built in. Unfortunately you cannot record any content from Sling… bummer. The DVR also has a subscription-free TV guide and a coax input for a broadcast antenna. The DVR+ is $249 without a hard drive. You would need an external USB drive and you can decide how much storage to buy.

Would like to see at least some type of dvr functionality and on demand before I would consider this service. Thanks for the clear review. Guess I’ll stay with Netflix for now
