This is a comparison and discussion regarding the SimpleShot FlippinOut Scout and the Simple Shot Torque slingshots (catapults). I shoot them both (and while I'm at it do the wooden nickle challenge for a free band set from SimpleShot) by shooting a wooden nickel at 33 feet.
In this video, I discuss the similarities and differences between these two slingshots (catapults) and I have quite a lot to say regarding banding methods and some specific information regarding looped tubes. There's a lot of good information in this video regarding these two slingshots. I hope you will enjoy it.
The Scout is available at both simpleshot.com and on amazon amzn.to/2cCKBCs
And at Simpleshot.com simple-shot.com/slingshots/fli...
The Torque is only available at simpleshot.com simple-shot.com/slingshots/the...
The best deal I've found for 3/8 steel balls for slingshot ammo is here amzn.to/2cxG5rB

the torque is awesome. I have never shot a slingshot in my life and I got my mitts on one today, after a little fiddling around I am consistantly hitting a basketball at 15 yards. Excellent little tool, friendly(compared to a full size 1911 pistol) and compact, no noise, and cheap to shoot. I'm so excited. Had this for half an hour and its became my favorte toy/

Thank you for telling me about twisting the pouch because I'm a TTF SHOOTER myself and when I went to OTT I started getting fork hits sometimes myself and my Zone slingshot from SNIPERSLING I paid 170 dollars for its a MINNI ROBBIN CUSTOM and its OTT and I had a few fork hits and damaged it on the fork so I was pissed off majorly. So thanks for the tip with twisting the pouch il try it out my friend.

Glad to have found this video. I was on the fence between the Scout and the Torque as my second Simple Shot purchase; the Axiom Champ was my first and I love it. I learned on a Daisy wrist rocket with tubular bands. After shooting the Axiom with the flat bands I have to go with flats. Number one, the ergonomics of the Axiom is outstanding for me. Number two, it fits in my pocket so much easier than the heavy and cumbersome Daisy models. Number three, my accuracy rate rose considerably. I found a belt holster on Amazon that the Axiom fits in perfectly. Carrying it in my back pockets I was always concerned with ruining the bands. I'm certain the Scout will fit in it as well. I also found a leather ammo pouch that will contain I would say 100+ 3/8 inch shot. The unique feature of the pouch is a snap out tab with a magnet on it. As you unsnap the tab and put it out a shot is available on the magnet and none of the other shot falls out or at least past the magnet. Both leather items were less than $20. Simple Shot also offers a Bug Out Bottle containing flat bands that are capable of chucking stones and ammo, something to consider tossing into a bug out bag.

I am biased and would always choose a torque something about that pinch grip. I have tried many slingshots and always keep the Torque on my person. I believe you were the one that got me into using straight cut bands, we was discussing it on the forum. Never got to say thanks for that by the way (was quite a few years back before the band cut templates were hitting the scene big time).

I bought a Torque after owning/shooting 2 Scouts set up in OTT configuration, and experienced multiple fork hits and then one fork broke off after less than 20 shots (I think I was shooting 7/16" steel ball ammo). The break was clean, so I drilled and tapped the frame & fork for a #10-32 x 2" machine screw and reassembled it with the screw and epoxy, and haven't had any problems since. I also tweaked my pouch angle after watching Nathan's video on how to avoid fork hits. Nice thorough review!

that's a bummer you broke a fork but very cool your repair was effective. - I've kept the tubes on this one and I hunt mice in and around the shop with it. I exclusively use 3/8 steel outside and I go with a #0 50 grain lead ball inside (because the steel ricochets a lot and the lead doesn't very much... there are a few breakable things inside the shop). I can't remember the last fork hit I had.

I was getting lots of fork hits when i first started shooting the torque but after i watched your video about putting a little tweak on the pouch before releasing the ammo and after doing that i haven't since had a fork hit. Because of the fork hits ive chipped the frame in a few places and i had to sand the fork hits down because they were scraping against the bands. Thanks a lot bud for your help and advice!

The torque sure is easy to carry around. I have been carrying two slingshots every day since a week after I shot this video. My torque has been in my pocket most of the time, and The Hammer has been in my day bag. I'll note that I've been shooting The Hammer every chance I get and getting a lot of video (I've been putting that one through its paces and hunting with it as often as possible for over a month now) for my next review. Around work and around the house, I'm shooting the Torque a lot too just plinking and killing the occasional field mouse because it's just no big deal to have it in my shirt pocket and a couple dozen 3/8 steel bearings in my watch pocket. It's nice to have such a thin, light slingshot as part of the EDC.

75 feet with 3/8 steel isn't as high of a hold over as one might think. I hit that peanut can in the center by aiming about 3 inches above it. The trajectory with 3/8 steel and the stock tubes stays flat for a long way.

@betweenfiveandseven
@betweenfiveandseven 6 жыл бұрын
I'm going to say something that lots of other people will disagree with, but I believe it strongly: Being consistent is everything -->even when you do something that isn't necessarily "proper". Lots of people will tell you to try to perfect your form and your pouch hold and your stance etc. I'm going to tell you to try to do everything about each shot exactly the same every time even if part of what you do might be technically wrong. Try to hold the frame exactly the same every time. Try to hold the pouch the same every time. Try to get your "sight picture" the same every time. Try to get your stance the same and try to release your shot in exactly the same part of your inhale or exhale of breath.... even if any of the things you do aren't perfect. … Some folks will say I'm encouraging bad habits and you'll have a hard time breaking them if you train your muscle memory to doing something "wrong". There's a lot to be said for "perfect form" and for breathing control and everything else regarding shooting. But the most important thing is consistency because you'll create repeatable results. Once you have repeatable, consistent results, then you can try to fine tune each individual aspect of your form and shooting action to improve those already repeatable consistent results.

They do work fine with the clips. It's a little hard to find the exact right spot and pick an aiming reference, but with a little tinkering, it works.
@betweenfiveandseven
@betweenfiveandseven 7 жыл бұрын
I thought about my reply a little bit... I guess it was probably worth mentioning that I have not mastered aiming down the bands yet. After doing some shooting, I just figure out the spot on the upper fork that gets the horizontal plane correct to the flight of the projectile. Then, I just judge distance for the vertical considering the trajectory I expect. The only thing that tends to cause me to have "big misses" is when I don't pay attention to where/how my feet are placed. If and when I master leaning my head over the bands and doing the "One Line" aiming, I think I'll be a lot more comfortable with looped tubes on the scout... and I think the placement of my feet will become a little less important.

I would really appreciate it if you could compare the two size, fork width etc I got the ocularis a while back but that little thing is just not for me I'm just not very accurate with it, keep getting fork hits and I've just stopped using it. It sounds like you need better neighbors. And, a catch box might be a good idea for you. I have lots of places around home, work, and out at my dads farm that I can shoot without ever worrying about any of my shot reaching any neighbors property. If I didn't, I'd get my practice in with a catch box.
@MartyInLa

Whats a catch box? I'm going to guess it's a wooden or cardboard box with a heavy piece of cloth draped in front of it? BTW, can you make an instructional video on how to aim your slingshot? I really have no idea what I'm doing.
@betweenfiveandseven
@betweenfiveandseven 7 жыл бұрын
Yes. About the best idea I have seen is to convert a plastic storage tub using some old tee-shirts, glue, and a wooden dowel. If your projectiles are caught, your neighbors won't have anything to complain about. I'll have to think on an aiming video. I'm not sure if I'm a good enough teacher to explain that on camera. I will suggest that you find the youtube channel Gamekeeper John. He has some aiming videos that are very well thought out and make sense.

It's honestly not the frame that makes it good for hunting. All the power comes from the bands. The frame is there to hold. You could have the scout and a Y fork from a tree and if you use the same bands on them the power/speed should be the same. The big caveat is this. Frames are different so what's comfortable to shoot is dependant on the frame. But the power and consently hitting target is bands and you. Not the frame.. So for long answer. But so many peoe seem to think a frame is what adds power and its the bands. Best way to explain is sort of like a rifle.. The rifle doesn't make ammo go faster. All things the same. Ie barrel length etc.. It's the ammo and powder load. The bands are like that. Bands are like the rifle ammo. The rifle and frame are just the delivery system. So find a frame you find is comfortable and you trust and practice then practice more. Good hunting ammo is 7/16 to 1/2 inch. Or 38 to 50 cal lead. I personally like 44 cal round lead ball. Smashes though a rabbit at 10-15 yards. Remeber. Head shots. For most part sling shots kill by blunt force. A 50 cal round lead in head or neck area is devastating to rabbit sized game . Even a bad shot will kill it, but it will probably be traumatizing to the rabbit and you.. Ie alot of screams and flopping from the rabbit and you will have to walk up and finish it off. God iv rambled on sorry folks.

I take about a half hour every day after work to target shoot and I've been hunting gophers, pack rats, and field mice around my dad's farm about once a week for the last 2 1/2 months or so. I was hitting pop can sized targets out to 60 feet with the Scout in the first few days of shooting. Lately, I've been trying to hone my skills by shooting at smaller targets and sometimes at greater distances. 75 feet seems to be the longest distance I can remain consistent, but I've been taking a few shots at 100' every day and I'm getting better.

You are very accurate with those slingshots! I love to eat poultry, and I wonder if those slingshots would be a good device for hunting and procuring wild game fowl such as turkey, grouse, pheasant, quail, ducks, geese, or other fowl? I assume that they work well on squirrels, and chipmunks. Thanks for the video.
@betweenfiveandseven
@betweenfiveandseven 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely these are capable of taking grouse, pheasant, quail, ducks, etc. As long as you get the head or neck shot, anyway. Wing feathers on most birds are pretty good armor and even a direct hit with 44-50 cal lead might be more or less shrugged off by a duck or pheasant wing. I think a turkey would require a pretty perfect head shot. Turkey is a durable critter and I've seen more than a couple come out with the upper hand in a coyote fight after having their necks bitten and shaken. ... I have killed several gophers with slingshots now, so I can say first hand that they will kill squirrel and you don't necessarily have to get the neck or head. The blunt force on important organs is enough... I don't hunt squirrels and I won't kill a chipmonk. Here's something personal I don't mind sharing: I was 12 years old the last time I killed a chipmonk. It was the one and only time in my life I ever killed a critter for no reason. 35 years later I still feel a little bad about it. I could take you right to the tree he was on, in fact... I remember that little critter every time I walk through that part of the woods on dad's farm.

@msilverhammer 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, I once hit a chipmunk too, and the BB that I hit him with just bounced off, and he ran away, apparently no worse for wear. The one and only time that I ever hit a chipmunk, and yes, just a kid hunting for no good reason, other than to develop prowess with the slingshot.

Did you take a break from youtube? I haven't heard from you in a while. I thought for sure you might have some information to add to the yukon outfitters walkabout tarp video. ... And, as I've told you before, when I visit your youtube page, there's no way to send you a message, so I couldn't check on your well being. ... And I do hope all is well.

Well, no real break, actually I have been watching videos from Ben of Living Survival, Feral Woodcraft, Gideon's Tactical, High Carbon Steel Love, Prepared Mind 101, Ramblings of a Prepared Mind, Mantis Outdoors, Wingman 115, Kevin's Adventures, Adventure, Trail and Mountain, Bushcraft Barton's, Dave Canterbury, Black Owl Outdoors, Black Scout Survival, Black Rifle Survival, and Blacktiph (boy, that's a lot of black in those channel names) just to name a few, and of course your videos. I did watch the entire video on the Yukon-Outfitters tarp, and I was actually going to comment, and had the page open, when my Firefox browser crashed. It does that sometimes when I have too many tabs open at one time. I was reminding myself to go back and review the video again, but had not yet gotten back to it. Let me watch it again, and I will send you my thoughts. Obviously that YO tarp was not going to give the DD Tarp 3x3 a run for the money, but for the low cost, it will probably be good enough for occasional use. I have some new gear purchases, and other potential purchases to run by you soon, and by the way, following are a few links to gear on sale at Woot, including some Max[edition gear that you seem to like. sellout.woot.com/plus/maxpedition-packs-and-bags-3?ref=sp_gh_so_11_wp_8 sport.woot.com/plus/build-your-own-survival-kit-1?ref=sp_gh_sp_6_wp_2

You are a dedicated youtube viewer... Let me suggest another good channel to fit the theme: Black Warrior Lures. About half of his videos are about modifications he makes to his boat, but the other half are full of all sorts of info about living and obtaining food in the wet climate South.
