These men are all so talented. I am always surprised when I revisit slipknot because Corey’s vocal range and capabilities are unmatched, rapper, singer, screamer. Anyone who doesn’t see the artistry in this music is absolutely dense.

I remember when I was young (still in HS, late teens) and I went to my first OzzFest (00 or 01). There was this band I never heard of, they were a large band all in numbered jumpsuits wearing different masks. A few of them come walking through the crowd and my buddy points them out to me saying “that’s that new band Slipknot! Those dudes are pretty good, we gotta check them out!”. They were playing on second stage in the middle of the day so we went and checked them out. Right after that I start walking towards the bathroom and accidentally bumped into Mick (guitar) as I was walking by. Dude was super chill about it and asked me if I heard Slipknot yet. I told him no but I was planning on checking them out when their set us up because my friend just told me about them. Mick says something like “cool, make sure you come by and check it out. It’s gonna be a good show”. Even with the small stage, lots of people showed up and they absolutely killed it. Massive pit, crazy awesome energy and all around amazing performance. Yea, that’s a pretty mundane story but still a cool memory for me, especially as my first memory ever hearing of this band.

@@Splooglebumb yea man, I worked my ass off at a minimum wage job to afford it but it was worth it. After I made this comment, I looked back at my old merch from the OzzFest’s I went to and I went to 6 of them from 2001 through 2007. Some of the best people I ever met and some of my best memories and experiences were at those shows. My only regret is not getting anything signed by them back in the day. Still, definitely a cool moment to bump into and have a conversation with Mick. I would love to see if he remembers the kid with multicolored braids he talked to before his show in VA that year but I’m sure he has had so many interactions like that he most likely wouldn’t. Still, it’s one of those memories I’ll always remember fondly.

Joey wasn't playing very well and he didn't come out with the real reason why, and I think the band just thought he had lost the heart for it and was time for him to go.. he hid his condition from the band and a lot of other people, maybe he was embarrassed. But I don't think they ever used him or stopped loving him.

Damn this really makes me nostalgic for the attitude and personality of the original Slipknot. I was in prison in '98 when I got my first dose of slipknot, also when I discovered Zebrahead. They have both wandered so far away from all the things that so many people fell in love with and went from being a distinct individual to being one of many, and not nearly inspiring enough to hold my interest for an entire song of their current material. It's a sad shame. Kind of makes you tear up when you listen to the old stuff, because there are so many memories tied to those songs (and that style, in general), and it's almost like experiencing a death because they are never coming back.

I was nearly 18 the first time i heard this, I'm nearly 42 now. Pantera was my favorite band at the time and still is now. Many great bands have put out tonnes of awesome songs between them during that time. For me no other band has come even close to giving me the feeling i got, and the excitement i felt when i heard Slipknot for the first time. Thinking back on that moment gives me warm fuzzies
