I've been a fan for a long time, Slorgs, but I don't agree with a lot of points in this video. It's a shame you're not enjoying the current state of the game, but not every game needs an "Overwatch" or "Csgo" mindset. Cashout is still the CORE game mode. They’ve been separated into two categories, and now Cashout will receive more attention since it has its own space and progression. We’ll even get new custom map modifications exclusively for the World Tour! Terminal Attack works really well as a "classic ranked mode" that appeals to other competitive players, with its two sites and bomb type of gameplay. It’s really sad that some major voices are discrediting the game before the season has even started! A couple of things I wanted to add: I don't personally think melee weapons are unviable in ranked, and I wouldn’t say that adding new "gimmicks" is a bad thing. This season proves that Embark is working on both new content and the whole ranked system. I think the reason why some people like the terminal attack is because you as an individual have more impact on the game and don't have to have those team mates that work with you because let's be honest most don't.

The FINALS is for FUN.... its a game where you can choose what you want to use and play in a creative way... it is NOT a HARDCORE all weapons have to be super balanced competitive game... I can’t get on board with all these negative sentiments, not just from you, but from a number of loud voices in this space. I have so much fun with this game across all the changes as they’ve been on-going. I love that I have to adapt to something fresh every week. Will I like every change? Probably not, but through every change made, I always have fun every session. I don’t know what the recipe is that has achieved that, but I love it and can’t wait to see what comes next.

Season 3 is awesome, the new map is BEAUTIFUL and super fun to play, yeah the melee weapons are kinda busted rn and TA isnt the best choice for ranked, but it’s still the same finals we know and love. Cashout on World Tour is still good sweaty fun. Idk what everyone’s b**ching about honestly. The last thing prospective players need to see is “the tragic state of season 3” like cmon, this type of stuff is killing the player base.

A shame to hear that you're not enjoying the state of the game, especially when I remember we had a great talk a few seasons ago on the state of the game etc with some suggestions on improving it, and it's gone further away from what you've envisioned. Even though I felt a little personally attacked at the start, I don't think you were directing it to me, as I live and breathe this game, but I know of some that only post update videos etc and agree that they highy likely don't actually play the game lol. You've raised a tonne of concerns, some of them I agree with but from my perspective this is still a casual game, yes a very sweaty one sometimes lol. I've been speaking to comp players and it's not really about the weapons, gadgets etc being added, it's moreso the balancing of those weapons. Of course we can disagree and that's 100% fine, but just wanted to add my 10 cents that I don't see anything wrong with Embark adding weapons for players on casual focus, that enjoy modes such as PowerShift, BankIt, Cashout and (hopefully) if those casual players did want to extend into competitive, World Tour. Appreciate the feedback and it's great talking points to think about, perks sound like an interesting idea that I've like to hear further about :)

Its gonna be real funny when you see ruby players that use exclusively melee weapons. There are meta weapons and there are meta builds. The finals has meta weapons like the Ak and the throwing knives and the lewis among its aeaplns. But then there are builds that utilize those "non-meta" weapons like the dodge being used with the sword. Your entire video about the weapons being 'gimmicky' and non meta like is assinine, close-minded, and downright idiotic. If you need weapons to be 'meta' go back to cod. Ive seen entire teams melted with a heavy with a sledge or a medium with a riot shield.

Gotta be honest I feel like your expirience with the Finals is completely different than mine. Casual matches are not really competetive at all and you can do great with any weapon in them. Sure it might be hard in ranked to do much with them, but on other modes everything goes really. Also the cashout gamemode is said to still be the main focus of the game so in other words that means that ranked isn't actually the core gamemode, but World Tour and it just feels strange to me that people cannot accept that, because it is a different way of counting rank.

We don’t need perks, and we definitely don’t need a power creep. The meta is a bit stale yes, but it works and I’m not really sure how to shake it up besides perks and load outs. This ain’t COD But I do agree I hate terminal attack too… In Embark we trust, Cashout is still here.

I hate that nearly every game has a meta now because it honestly boxes them into never being able to release genuinely fun content for casual players. As soon as a game comes out now people are trying to min/max the game through the roof and it makes the casual playerbase drop slowly. It also makes so that theres basically a set amount of weapons to use and if you try something else you'll get slapped by people who do use the meta weapons. Especially in the finals (where there is no money invested by the player) it's honestly simpler to drop the free game than it is to box yourself into like 3 weapons and have 0 fun. People tend to fight for a game once their cash is invested and in this case people don't care because it's free. It's almost a shame but they're shooting themselves in the foot with the direction they're taking. As it were, slorgs you're a legend mate. Keep it funky keep it fresh keep it 94.9FM my guy.

So, the real reasons the Finals fell off. 1 the game is harder than the braindead shooters that are super popular. See xdefiant/CoD. 2. There were tons of server issues / cheaters that drove a lot of people away from the game. 3. There is fatigue from hero shooters in general, and the finals technically is one. Ultimately, the game has enough of a dedicated fanbase that it will be fine. The doom and gloom everyone has for the game is unjustified if I'm being real. Just enjoy the game, and tell people how much you like the game and why they should give it a shot. That's all you can do.

This person is very ignorant to say that Throwing Knives and melee weapons arent viable. Maybe my opinion is wrong, but if these compaines are player count forecasting with data from the pandemic, this will hurt them, there are people with much less time to play game, and Finals is fun but, you cannot play alone to have this fun, you need to sweat and most people coming back from work wont want to sweat their ass off like before when they had time, this is probably an external factor in the games market right now which is why single player games are now getting more success in comparion to multiplayer games as they are much chill and already has a path chosen for you.

I disagree with your statement on ranked. The devs said that Terminal Attack is only a temporary ranked mode and is just a stand in while they rework some parts of cashout inside of the grand tour gamemode. Also, speaking of grand tour, it will count towards your rank from bronze to gold. It is a shame because I reached gold in like 2 weeks, but I'll definitely still main the game. You will also get multibucks for free for your placement on the Grand Tour leaderboard as well. They haven't lost their identity, but I also do agree that losing the hype while making this change could be detrimental the game. As a long time player of WW3 it is sad to see great games (that are imo way more fun than the mainstream cod and bf) fail because of a lack of players. I disagree with the meta statement. The throwing knives buff has everyone calling for nerfs for being too over powered and there are plenty of diamond 1 sword players. Also, the sniper is kind of dog in anything but power shift and power shift isn't a ranked mode. Also I play with my friend and he uses the riot shield and winning ranked is not very difficult.

Its funny because i have always thought of this game as a fun casual game where its fun to win. Its even more fun to win when you use the off meta weapons. I do agree that Terminal attack is not something i think this game should focus on. Cash out is the most gun and innovative mode in an FPS game i have ever played

The bigger problem is cash out. Has some major gameplay problems like it's one of the most slot machine game modes I've ever played. From the character select screen, who am I going to get? Oh my gosh, it's a light with a knife that will get one kill and to quit the game. Do you get spawned near the vaults or not? the map variant isn't good for your loadout. Hope you Don't get low gravity. The game mode has some inherent flaws that need fixing by testing with the whole community.

At the end of the day I don’t think it’s the game devs fault the game is the way it is I think that the gaming community at large failed it. This just goes to show that people can complain about AAA devs like COD or DICE aren’t “innovating” and are releasing the same game, but when something like this came out and was actually different and “made the way games should be made” people moved on. I agree with you that it’s a shame cashout mode was dropped out of rank, but like you said the devs most likely saw an uptick in players when they made their came LESS UNIQUE is when more players came.

I could not disagree with you more. I have had nothing but fun with The Finals and am incredibly excited for the entire life cycle of this game. Season 3’s gonna be fun as hell. I have seen nothing but complaining from the content creators for the game and within the subreddit. Dude’s be talking about the game dying but I plan on being here till they either shut the servers down or Embark makes a sequel. Weapons can be not meta, that is called having fun. Gimmicks are fun and goofy to mess around with. Everyone thinks they’re the main character of every server. Sometimes sledgehammer go brrr on a house is all you need man. The Finals has quickly climbed my top games of all time, I genuinely can’t get enough of the game. The game is not perfect but the dev team has been great so far with bug fixes and in game content. I just feel like I’m going crazy with how many people are complaining when I am having the total opposite time with this game. Either way, see you all in Season 3 >:)

I personally think the only problem is they just need to find a way to balance the light class. Add 50 health to every build and balance the weapons a little better. Heavy feels like Melee & Winch is the only viable strategy to lead your team. Light and Medium however feel very diverse in what you can use. Makes it a little boring knowing Medium and Light are just more fun to use

Compared to games that you have to pay to play this game is free to play and has given us so much content in such a short amount of time since the day of launch

the finals is fun to play in bursts. the gunplay, movement, and destruction are god tier but the amount of content leaves me wanting way more.

I love the dual katanas they added in the game just based off of how badass it is to kill an enemy by deflecting their own bullets. But yet it's own gameplay just isn't fit for these sort of weapons when stuff like flamethrowers, rpgs, and the new winch claw completely shut down my fun of using these new toys. It's like why would I even try using the dual blades when the model 1887 does basically the same thing but with more damage and range

Sadly I couldn’t see this game having much of a purpose from the beginning. There’s nothing to achieve nothing to earn. Like what’s the point. The best they could hope for was adding new gamemodes with a “gameshow” theme to them and just keep that going but beyond that there is nothing. That’s all the game is. Unlike all these features and destruction in a battlefield game where there is a point there is more to do there is more to earn which keeps you playing. It was inevitably a small shallow game from the start. I find it hard to envision where this wasn’t the inevitable conclusion

Lewis gun got nerfed to shit so heavies aren’t usually picked much. Which makes things worse IMO, because now you got clean and intact maps all throughout the game. I liked the absolute destruction in the finals and it’s been replaced with OP light gameplay and gimmick weapons that no one touches anymore.

Melee weapons are very competitively viable. I pushed to diamond in season two with riot shield, light sword was one of the better weapons, and I even played against quite a few sledge heavy’s.

Nope.. none of my friends played this game for more than a day or so. And I mean now you can probably point to the way they're adding stuff but even this game's launch felt dead. It was almost like no one knew it existed. Like the game was just some fever dream I had and when I tried to explain it to people no one knew what I was talking about

Honestly the only thing keeping me playing is the dumb fun guns, if it wasn't for all the unique weapons I would have moved on, I can play dozens of games I can use autos in.

I am a big fan of the finals, I have played since the open beta, but dude you are just wrong. New season is so fuuun, if they can keep this pace, finals will out number every other fps light work. Also I am a melee/projectile weapon only jerk.

Ultimately, I think the issue isn't content, or the amount of gimmicks being added each season. If anything, there is too little content in the game for any given "casual" player. Rather, the game seems to be having a sort of identity crisis. During season 1 it seemed to be doing more or less its own thing, and while we knew that simple attack-defend wouldn't be dynamic enough and that it could get repetitive really quickly, ultimately it was fun and felt fresh, cosmetics were really well done, and the entire game was just oozing (opsuzing.. hah..haha... sorry) with style. Three-person squads made it easy to play with friends, since it's significantly easier to get 1-2 others to play with you, rather than 3 or 4 friends. But then (I have a feeling it's due to Nexon not wanting to spend on marketing, but wanting them sweet sweet Fortnite numbers) they started adding stuff that was obviously intented to compete with, for example, Call of Duty. Okay, whatever. Then we got stuff that is clearly a way to compete with Rainbow Six or CS. But at the same time, the structure reminds me of hero-shooters a lot. And now we have anime skins, and also a skin that is clearly ""inspired"" by the Rust Lord skin in Fortnite - signaling to me that the game is now DESPERATE to attract players from Fortnite as well as CoD and R6. So right now, the game is in an extremely small niche market, wanting to compete in every other larger market at the same time.

What if they added a game mode like Rush from battlefield where attackers have to steal cash instead of command posts, because a lot of the complaints I hear is just how sweaty it is but a mode like that could appeal to the casual

The move to TA was great. I’m glad they buffed the Light guns since Light has always been underpowered.

I feel like this video might be overlooked based of the amount of minor mistakes made throughout the whole video. But also i feel like how because s3 add 2 melee weapons and adding the world tour might just be an attempt to create a more casual game. While the old cashout mode was great, some top players have called that game mode not the most competitive, so terminal attack is proably just a bandage solution to try and make the ranked experience more competitive. Sadly terminal attack did make it less fun

The finals is legitimately one of the most fun games I’ve ever played and new content is what brings me back to the game. I didn’t like what there was in season 2 so I didn’t play that season but I’m really happy with the content this season. I think the world tour is a great happy medium between ranked and quick match too and it’s all I’ve been playing.

I can understand you calling the new weapons gimmick and people use the gimmick weapons you said they unuseable but they are usable it just as you said the game meta heavy but litter almost any weapon with range will be good heck the only really different between the ak and fcar was one has less ammo and sight and increased kill power due to lower ammo

Im glad to see someone else who loved the finals but i disagree with most of your points. Throwing knives are so strong they ought to be nerfed at this point. Maybe a perk system would be fun. Most games with developer pushed Metas are boring like LoL. I like DoTA's style better where everything is viable. I hope the finals finds that. I dont want to know where the points are before the match, i dont want to know where the enemies are coming from, i want everything to improvisation. Makes it fresher and more fun. To me anyways.

In a 3v3v3v3 situation there is more luck and randomness involved than in 5v5, which is why I like terminal attack. Cashout is actually a fun mode but I wish it was always like the final round of a tournament... Its just not feasable to keep track of 6-9 other players especially because of the fast pace and movement abilites which creates just random bad situations no matter how good you are. That said, I think the game never was truly made for sweats (who will obviously still come) but its more of a fun arena shooter where you are supposed to create a class around your own playstyle. What players make of it, is a different story. But I see many lights playing melee and "non-meta" weapons even in ranked.

I think, weirdly, I agree with most of the comments below - pro AND con. Everyone is trying to put their finger on what would take the finals to the next level or what's holding it back. To put a slightly different spin on your take (and I can take the criticism - and admit up front I have a complete love-hate relationship with the game itself), I feel like Embark is this studio of artists, auteurs even (if I can say something super pretentious), and it has an inevitable impact on the enjoyability of the game. For me it does, at least. Sometimes I feel like the gameplay is an after-thought, even though intellectually I know it's not. The Embark folks are probably busting their brains every day trying to figure this out. But it seems like a game that was designed to be extremely cool where the unconscious assumption or wishful thinking was that the gameplay would ultimately sort itself out on its own to a great extent. Instead, I agree with your point about the game benefitting from more depth rather than breadth, but with such a range of possibilities the question is where to focus the energies and add that depth. I have my own thoughts, fwiw. Here are four: (1) Unlike maybe most games, I think more maps is not the answer to replayability and the avoidance of boredom for THE FINALS. Rather focus on more variations within each map. I'm all for new maps, btw, just maybe rotate them in and out by season. That way both the devs and players can go deep into, say, three maps per season and lots of hopefully wild and challenging variations. (2) If balancing is damn near impossible, maybe lean into it. Rather than add more 'gimmicky' weapons, gadgets, and specializations, play around and experiment way more with the existing ones. It's a virtual game show, they can justify anything within that concept. Then the whole idea is that the game show is constantly changing and there is no expectation of some stable, 'balanced' equilibrium (not that there ever is or can be, let's face it). Also, just like with maps, new weapons, etc., are cool, but maybe rotate some in and out. If sniper ends up dominant to the bow, e.g., why add the bow - except if you also rotated out the sniper. Another thought, "nukes" might have been cool and fun as a two week thing. Not so cool as a forever thing, as we all found out. Just saying. (3) Fix cashout - they're worried about experimenting with it during the season. They're worried ranked players won't stand for the game constantly being changed up on them. Let's test that hypothesis and instead lean into the experimentation. They could change things up meaningfully within the mode every two weeks with a patch and just say it's part of the game, then when they see things that work really well, return to them more often or make them standard, and things that are broken, either fix or reject them. (4) Simplify. An example would be the story or lore, except that it may already be too late for that. We could have just done the Cashout game show thing for a long time, if not forever, and gone way deeper into that simple concept. People will say they love bank it, power shift, even TA, and I do, too, but only because they threw them into the game. But a lot of the things people like about those modes could easily have been worked into variations on maps and cashout rules I bet (although I'm only speculating and not a dev, and also, there are ingrained expectations of gamers that maybe they do have to kowtow to, but then that part would be our fault)... Meanwhile, the reality, to go back to my original point, is that we have artists, in my opinion. Wedded to their elaborate story, vision, and creativity for the game. I respect it, it's their prerogative as the devs, but it just feels like the game is a mess a lot of the time due in no small part to this factor. Which is charming at first, certainly, and frequently that charm crops up again. Like I said, for me, it's a love-hate thing. Thanks for listening to my dissertation on this subject. You can dislike all you want his points about TA and cashout are on point. However i do love playing the finals casually and competitively at the same time. No other game for me is like that besides this amazing game. This season would have been the best yet if they didn’t do the dumb ranked change.

I remember having a blast with my friends with the core game modes in the finals. The new mode doesn't seem to hit the same, I hope they draw back from the terminal attack game mode. This wasn't mentioned at all in the video but I feel like the Finals needs to find a personality or somethin cause rn its starting to feel more bland and lifeless despite all the work put into it. Thats a smaller issue though, I just hope they most importantly put work into the cash out game mode and stuff.

After commenting I decided to read the comments and noticed that it’s not just me, there no single person in the comments agreeing with this guy 🤣

This comes from former Battlefield developers so it shouldnt suprise anyone.... They left every game they ever worked on in same state more or less.

He kinda right bout the new weapons, bow and chain seem perfect for the game but the rest not so much. he actually atleast providing sound reasoning to his logic can’t say that for most other people. Btw terminal attack is temporary so yeah…

saying the finals is like an old school game is WILD
