Another great video: there must be room for a video on your entire jig collection? What it is, what it does and basic description of how to make it?? Fabulous stuff. I look forward to the release of your videos, so inspiring and instructive. Thank you.

I recently replaced a bridge on an old six string acoustic which I cut from a piece of rosewood - I've enough to material left to fabricate another two bridges - which I cut with a tenon saw, shaped with a couple of files and made the bridge pin holes and closed saddle slot (by overlaying the old bridge and marking the positions on the bridge blank) with a bench drill (you call it a drill press) and a couple of chisels......I don't have any fancy pieces of kit and though it took some time it replicated the old cracked bridge. Fitted and you can't see the difference...honestly ! I'm not requesting plaudits from anyone but, you can do so much with old fashioned hand tools. I'm a pragmatic amateur !

Absolutely! Antonio De Torres, Antonio Stradivari, George Hepplewhite, Duncan Phyfe, didn't even ha ve an electric drill, let alone the power to run one:)

Love that jig. Ill have to try that. I'm currently working on a guitar but i couldn't get the intonation quite as good as i wanted. Do you have any tips or ideas on measurement that would work every time? Thanks

I have jigs that help me position a bridge, but i also double check by measurement. You can place a bridge by determining the center of the high E string a 1.0035 times the scale length of the guitar, then measuring the opposite end of the bridge saddle slot at an increase of 1/8" per 3" of travel along the bridge. A second check should also be made by measuring from each end of a fret (I use the 4th) to the front corners of the bridge. When those two distanced are equal, the bridge should be in the correct position. Use as many checks and double checks as you need to assure correct positioning..

@@thepragmaticluthier Is there a standard distance from the high E side saddle slot to the high E bridge pin? Thank you for that info!

Making a bridge is absolutely an area i need to do and figure out. And no real chance I'm squeezing a milling machine in the garage.
@thepragmaticluthier5 ай бұрын
How about a smaller mill, or better yet, a MUCH BIGGER garage:)
@MrDaveKC5 ай бұрын
@@thepragmaticluthier Yeah, maybe a small mill, but it would need to be really small. A bigger garage is probably called moving, and I'm quite sure the wife isn't thrilled about that prospect.

I totally need a milling machine, unfortunately I just don't have room in my garage. And, for some reason my wife won't let me put in the living room. I personally think she's being totally unreasonable. But she's waaaaay smarter than me so I'll defer to her.

That is a predicament for you. I am fortunate; my wife and I both have a degree in Industrial Arts Education. When either one of us says," I need a..." , the other says, " hmm, I'm surprised that it took you this long to think of it". Been that way for forty four years.
