They did this on QI with much greater effect using a smoke machine.

Guys, smoke is used by almost everyone with one of those cannons. I've seen a kids presentation use one. I wouldn't have clicked on this if it said smoke :)
@RobertSzasz8 жыл бұрын
glitter isn't a bad idea, but you needed a much much brighter point source light to highlight how it orients as its dragged by the vortex. Or you could try multiple lights with gels so the color changes as the glitter is rotated.

I wish that KZfaq Science channels would do videos for people actually interested in science rather than mass appeals videos that barely touch on scientific concepts. I could have done a similar quality video with just myself blowing smoke rings past a lamp light. Now, excuse me while I go watch a video on the preparation of potassium periodate from potassium hydroxide and potassium iodate... You know, REAL science.

I feel like you guys misses a better phenomenon when you were using the glitter. and the vortex enter and passed through the glitter, it phased and the shock spread throughout the mass.

Just shoot some fog from a fog machine into that thing, way easyer to see the vortex.

if you put smoke in the cannon you get a much better effect.

Why did you spell doughnut like that, *Brit* Lab? Also, shouldn't it really say torus?
@pbilk8 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Bulman Because that is how you spell it in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. I think the US and maybe a few others spell it the other way.
@bulman078 жыл бұрын
pbilk1 No, UK spelling is the full doughnut. US often shortens it to do'nut, usually without the apostrophe.
@pbilk8 жыл бұрын
Andrew Bulman That is what I was saying. :P

pbilk1 Oh, I see. Seemed like you were saying donut was the Commonwealth spelling.

@ladymadamblueberry8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Sheppard with all due respect, but if this wasn't spectacular enough, I guess you were focusing on the glitter and not the science?

+Madam Blueberry I'm afraid so. I was expecting more of a visual spectacle.

Why such a gimmicky video? Surely you guys are not desperate for views. You know that a much MUCH better effect can be seen with other methods, and apparently glitter does very little to highlight the vortex. I have to conclude that using glitter was only a choice of grabbing attention, and for the subject at hand I must frown upon such gimmicks when used.
