Sure enjoyed this video. A couple comments. Seems like later season fish would be bigger after a summer of warm water eating. Sure enjoyed the video...what fun. I think learninf current and tide effect on bait my big takeaway.

I really enjoyed that video. It's a lot of fun seeing someone that is that passionate about a fish. I get that way sometimes about flounder inshore, I study them day and night. We fish here in Jacksonville and the fishing should be very similar to what he encounters in North Carolina most of our wahoo are more of a Happy bycatch, as opposed to being targeted. we also like to keep out a blue and silver islander just in case of wahoo is around But slow trolling is our thing so I'm going to put some of these techniques to work.

Gracias. Always interesting to watch techniques in other areas - like NC - when I live and fish on the East Cape, Mexico, BCS. You wonder how much will transfer effectively to our region. I am trying to learn how to effectively target wahoo. Thank you for helping my learning curve. 🐟

You don't need big heavy reels to use planers. You can run two planers, and they don't need to be attached to your fishing line. To know your true speed, use GPS speed. Don't use STW. Use both side by side, and you can determine current speeds.

WOlves are not the biggest of the dog family.. Air next to the boat motors.. Air breaks up density of water. Less weight needed to drop through water column... ITs a specific gravity equation.. Scope is more of a factor, at speed, when closer to the boat.. Just a consideration.. Great info share.. Love Ono fishing

Hi, great video, I’m new to warm water fishing, living in Canada and learning as much as I can. My question is that I’ve heard with toothy fish like wahoo they will bite through a mono leader and to always use wire for this reason. In your opinion, is mono adequate?
@SlickMoves
@SlickMoves 3 жыл бұрын
I pull mainly wire with the exception of late spring/early fall. Check out my “wahoo proof rig” video on my channel where I explain how I tie rigs with mono that are wahoo proof (most of the time).

Hi Captain Mike, I went sailing in Greece last year with my buddy Martin, who owns a sailing yacht. I took my fishing gear with me and dropped my artificial lures all day for a week in the saronic gulf. You’ll find all kind of species there. I also sometimes put on Water Wolf Underwater Cams where I could see some Mahi, Dorados and even a Marlin chasing my baits but only chasing and watching it, never got a bite. SPEED: Problem is we have a very constant speed of 5 knots during sailing, sometimes 4-4.5. so actually a bit too slow for that typically high speed trolling of 6-10 knots with artificial lures. On the other hand I guess 4-5 knots are way too fast for trolling live baits. Can you tell me WHAT KIND OF LURES I should use to catch any fish during the next sailing trip? Maybe a combination of artificial one and live bait (pitch baits?), because we’re too slow to trigger a reaction bite? BIG THANKS!! Phil

Hey Philipp, in the case of trolling at 4-5 kts, I would personally have to pull dead bait rigged with skirts. You may have some some luck with pulling lipped plugs (like a Halco Hamma) or other diving lures. Halco is my lure maker of choice and they offer quite a few different models. I would try atleast 2 different sizes to try and narrow down what depth the bite is in, assuming that you get bit. I wish I could help more but local knowledge is your best tool when fishing new waters so I would definitely ask guys at the local tackle shops what they suggest.

Great Episode... A few questions that were not addressed... Are you always skirting a dead ballyhoo? What are you using on the flatlines? You only showed two lures..... The Seawitch and the Halco..... Are you running a seawitch on every line except the shotgun bait?
@SlickMoves
@SlickMoves 3 жыл бұрын
With the time allotted I could not really go into great detail. I tried to cram as much info in as I could. My apologies. Yes, I always skirt my dead ballyhoo. Either with Battle Ax skirts or Bullet Skirts (both handcrafted by shortriggertacklellc.com ). My shotgun is always a Halco Max 220 and depending on conditions, I pull Halco Max 190’s on my long riggers. Hope that helps. Tight lines and best of luck, see ya out there! 🤙🏽

Loads of fluff and nonsense in the first several minutes, jumped off because it too so long to get to what the video was supposed to be about. When you're asking questions about wolves and not about fishing like the title indicates, gets a thumbs down (which I very rarely do).
