These old houses are only for the elderly because they like to be lively and communicate with their neighbors. Their children will have their own houses in the city, but their parents don't want to live in the city. My grandmother is like this. She would rather live in the countryside because there are her friends there. My family has three houses in the city, and my grandparents are still unwilling to live in them.

In Asia, the term 'slum' means ... an area where people are dwelling on illegal land, there are no proper amenities, lanes are literally scattered with rubbish. under nourished children are seen running around without shoes/slippers is a common scene, their houses are made from savaged planks or tents ... etc ... etc but where else the video above shown none the characters. So to named the above as 'slum' or to use the 'slum' as metaphor is just out of context. 😇

These are back alley ways of very old houses, not really slum area, it's relatively clean and soon will be demolished and residents will be compensated and given new modem apartments to live in.

(1:01) This is one of the Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. It was built from more than 400 years ago. There are many historical sites scattered around this area, so it is not easy to demolish and develop like other urban villages. The government would prefer to protect the historical sites and improve the infrastructure of the community. It becomes an attractive for tourism now.

Don't mislead ppl. The cover is Janata Vasahat slum in Pune, not in China. There are poverties in China for sure. However China doesn't have "Indian style" slums. The place you showed in your video is the old town center of WuXi. Those houses are simple and crude, yet they have water supply and garbage disposal. The residents could easily trade in their properties to suburban apartments since the whole area will be demolished soon. I used to visit the largest slum in Mumbai. The "slums" in China and the "slums" in India are not comparable at all.

You can't find a slum in the true sense in China. There are such shanty towns in every city in China, basically living at the bottom or where migrant workers live. In China, this is called "urban village". The facilities and infrastructure are poor, but at least 24 hours uninterrupted power supply, running water system, communication system (fiber and 4G) and public toilets will be maintained.
