If you're a new parent, you know how challenging it can be to get your baby to sleep through the night. The constant wake-ups and crying can be exhausting for both you and your little one. But have you heard of the Chair in the Room sleep training method? In this video, we'll explain what the Chair in the Room method is and how it can help you and your baby get a better night's sleep.
The Chair in the Room method involves placing a chair next to your baby's crib or bed and sitting in it while your baby falls asleep. The idea is that your baby will feel comforted by your presence and learn to fall asleep independently over time. The method involves gradually moving the chair farther away from the crib or bed until your baby can fall asleep without your presence.
We'll dive into the details of how to implement the Chair in the Room method, including tips for success and common mistakes to avoid. We'll also share personal stories from parents who have used this method with success.
If you're tired of feeling exhausted and frustrated from lack of sleep, the Chair in the Room method might be the solution you've been looking for. Tune in to learn more and get started on your journey to better sleep for you and your baby.

Thank you for differentiating “drowsy” and “calm” because I wasted 2-3 months thinking I was sleep training laying my baby down while she was “drowsy” (eyes closed, smiling, moving a little) b/c that’s how I picture “drowsy”. Here she is, still waking up every 2 hours! I didn’t realize drowsy really means eyes open and truly awake lol ugh. She’s only 5.5 mos, so it’s not too late to start again 😂

You're so welcome! Now is the perfect time to implement some changes and get more than 2hr chunks of sleep!

@@SlumberandBloom yes, just started the “chair method” tonight! Hoping to give that a good chance, if not, then it’ll be Ferber. I tried Ferber for the past 2 nights but baby was screaming her lungs out for so long, even through the comforting check-ins. I had never even heard her cry that hysterical before. My hubby actually couldn’t take another 10-minute window of it, so I want to go back and try a gentler method instead.

My 1 year old sleeps in our room but we are getting his own room ready, and he will have his own room within a few months. I know big change can be disruptive. Should I try this now, and then perhaps again when he is in his own room? Or should I hold off until he has his own room? He shifted a just over a week ago and it has been a STRUGGLE to get him to take naps AT ALL and he often wakes up every 2 or 3 hours at night, but sometimes only an hour goes by before he wakes up again. He is teething, but this is happening even when I decide to give him tylonol to help with the pain (which is only every so often).

What do you start with naps, night time or both
@SlumberandBloom

Depends on age. Under 6 months, nights. Over 6 months, both.

What about if my toddler is on a floor bed? Do you think this will work? She is 23 month old.

We started this tonight, was rough. Tried the ladder and had to pick her up. She would take a while to calm down, but once i laid her back down she would really freak out, then back to the ladder till i had to pick her up again. Eventually she ended up falling asleep but in my arms. Shes 13 months, guess we should have started younger. Try it again tomorrow (or when she wakes next)

I'm sorry it was rough. This method does usually result in some more hard tears with older babies. BUT that doesn't mean you can't keep doing it. Keep at it and try to get her to fall asleep in the crib. You'll get there!

My 18 month old has just started screaming and crying inconsolably when she is put into the crib drowsy. If I stay in the room it gets worse and she frantically reaches for me. If I leave her she stands and screams so I have started nursing her to sleep every night 😅 She previously put herself to sleep, slept through the night and was never sleep trained. Any advice?

18 months is usually too old to do gentle sleep training if she's having that kind of reaction (screaming and reaching for you). It's usually easier to do a more intermediate technique. If you're still struggling, please reach out! www.slumberandbloom.com

Oh sadness. My 9 month old stands and reaches for me, but when I tried Ferber he refuses to lay down and has literally fallen asleep standing (after an hour of heavy crying) twice. Heartbreaking. He also hates it when I leave the room throughout the day. The only time he lays down is when I’m laying next to him, so I thought perhaps this method would be a good middle ground for him, but maybe not

Worth a try. But you're definitely dealing with lots of separation anxiety. Keep trying. You'll get there!

What if the crib is in our bedroom?
@SlumberandBloom

Still applies, try to move the crib to the other side of the room if you can to put some distance between you.

What happens if you have a tiny box room with barely much more space than a crib and a chair? No room for progression.

Start next to the crib, step 2 in the doorway, step 3 outside of the room with the door closed. I've had clients in this situation and it works just as well!

I'm trying this with a toddler. What happens if this chair method goes on longer than an hour and you're beginning to lose your patience.
@SlumberandBloom
@SlumberandBloom 11 ай бұрын
It depends on what the child is doing during the time they're supposed to be falling asleep. If they're overstimulated by your presence, you may want to sit outside the door with it only open a crack.

My baby cries like crazy and will probably get overtired from crying. I’m scared of her being overtired because it’s like a 10 day cycle of moody , arching back screaming baby. How do I prevent her from getting overtired with this method? It seems it will take her forever to fall asleep without my help
