what he did would be called a rodeo, because his hips were above his shoulders. backflip would mean that his hips go straight over his shoulders, which didn't happen.

I literally just went down this rabbit hole. The simple reason is that the originators of the trick just called it that based on Kevin Federline's popularity in the zeitgeist of the early to mid 2000's. Not because of his dance moves, not because he was nothing till he met Britney Spears (a britney is the opposite of a k-fed - back swap front 270), not because of anything else other than him being a popular name at the time.

@@MaxRostas and the other side of the meaning is because many skiers were doing them. they are relatively easy when it comes to spinning box / rail tricks as opposed to pretzels or 270s on. so years ago when rail tricks were progressing, K-Fed was popular = the trick was very common.
