For legend scale figures, I collected a few new-age releases, and it has been good.
In the most recent war for legend scale Optimus, Magic Square caught my attention, so I thought, maybe I should give it a try, and when this MS-B31 Detective arrived today, I was like, wow, it is something very different.
This is legend scale, on a whole new level, let’s talk about it.

I am a big fan of the nylon MS uses. The tiny and thin pieces they are able to use in construction more than make up for the dull color. It's a smart trade off, and it feels great to handle and manipulate.

Agreed, it's fun to just mess with the figure without worrying about paint, it just feels relaxed.

This just brings back my childhood of NES' Jackal videogame. 😍 The engineering is impressive for this small size transformations every hidden, folded parts into a very fun transformer toy.

Exactly! Jeeps fighting tanks, submarines and choppers! And this jeep rolls like a matchbox car, but a lot quieter, so much fun.

I hope to see a review of the Magic Square 2.0 review. That is a very interesting figure. I hope they do ab MP version of that like with 1.0.

I think this figure beat out the Newage Hound. I like how the legs are not that skinny.

3:56 this is from a G1 Episode where he and other Autobots capture Ravage and intentionally let him escape to relay false information to Megatron, which they told to each other in front of his cage.

I think there's a funny animation error too where in one shot, Ravage is actually outside the bars of the cage. Those animation errors are funny to catch.

Hey man, I just got mine and I can agree with pretty much everything you said about this toy. It's fun and well designed, All 4 of the wheels on mine were quite loose. Needlenose plyer solved that in a jiff. Great review

Thank you for showing him next to NA Mirage. I've been debating between this one and waiting for NA's which is coming. One of my criteria was "how does he scale next to his closest companions?" IE, Mirage and a few other season one cast. I like the feet and transformation.

Glad the video helped! Both MS and NA have Mirage and Hound, released in different order, but they are of different scales and styles. Let's wait for MS Mirage and NA Hound to see how do they match.

The only real downside I find with MS is the material they use. Aside from that, I find that they always knock it out of the park with their bots. Solid review as always, dude! Always looking forward to what you got next.

I love ms. I'm a big fan. I love newage too but I've developed a love of the nylon.

It is a compromise, MS is only able to pull off many of their designs due to the material they use. The strength and flexibility of the Nylon material allows MS to design very thin parts and joints which are impossible (without breaking too easily) for the type of more premium plastic Newage is using. For example, Newage will not be able to pull off the kind of design choices MS used in their Optimus 2.0. Had Optimus 2.0 used newage materials, it will sure look and feel much more premium, but it will also break on first transformation.

I was really hoping this wouldn't have rubber tires. Hopefully this isn't the same kind of plastic-melting rubber as the treads on ROTF Bludgeon and Demolishor.

Are you based in China? Would be good to get early 3P reviews in English, since most of the early ones are in Mandarin with no subtitles. Would benefit the non-Chinese speaking fans for sure.

I'm definitely considering getting more Magic Square figures, and this guy looks like so much fun. Only thing is I don't know whether to go with this or the painted repaint. And not for the reason you think. The painted repaint is actually cheaper, but part of me kind of prefers the unpainted look for some reason and not because the new paint job is bad. I just find less-painted looks to be more charming in a weird way.

This one surely is great, and having different paint scheme options is always good. For me, I like the new paint scheme, and I know how hard it is to feel that difference though videos or photos, but in person, the new color scheme wins hands down, but still, personal taste.

@@OptimusLegends Makes sense! I think the main thing for me is the shade of green on this version and the repaint just looks a tad too dark for my liking. But either way I'm so impressed by MS Ken that I just need more of their figures. The transformation on that thing is so much fun and the materials make it feel so pleasant. Only problem is I just saw that this version's sold out on ShowZ. Hopefully it comes back into stock, but I'm not quite sure how 3P distribution is compared to Hasbro as I'm still new to this side of the market.

I think he looks great and has some amazing poses you put him in! I however cant get past how wide the waist is, I think Newage is like this too, but that's the only part of his proportions that bug me, otherwise a mini representation of MP-47! Why calling him Willis though a few times?

Hi Steve, Willys is the Jeep model, Hound's alt mode, apologize for the confusion. The proportion is a bit off, but it does not look as obvious in person due to its small size, the thing that strikes me is how posable this little guy is, so much fun posing it.

I almost had the exact same experience, I did not notice the face until I found it on the floor, it's way too small, and it's with the instruction sheet, where normally not the place for accessories.

The plastic looks like crap as usual for Magic Square, BUT, this looks so similar to MP47 that I don't see NewAge outdoing this...*EVER*.

Very true, the material does not look good, so if they could just figure out a more optimized combination of materials they use, this would look so much better.

@@heavyhitter5538 Doesn't have to be a Takara style full on paint job. Look at the very first release of NewAge's Megatron. The plastic just looks nicer. Magic Square's Megatron? Vastly superior in nearly every regard except for the plastic they use.

I actually prefer the matte finish now. It's grown on me and actually took over my preference. Especially with Hound who is more military and their metal finishes usually are less reflective. The problem is now I want everything matte like the faction symbols. But because they're stickers, they have a gloss which now looks so out of place, even at this scale.
