Small HO Scale Layout Build - Ep. 2.1 Track Plan Update - The Grunge

I believe a track plan is never finished, and the same is true for The Grunge, my HO Scale small layout. Part of track planning is being able to make changes as needs arise and you learn more. In this video I will discuss the changes that I made, why I made them, and show them to you on the track plan.
If you've ever wanted to build a small switching layout but didn't know where to start, this series is for you! There's a lot to think about when building a small layout, especially in a tight space, and we'll cover everything you need to know. This is an addendum in the series on building a small HO scale layout.

If you could have made it work out, a "ghost track" is a great scenic feature.. I have a scene on my railroad where I left enough space on the main track for "where a switch used to be" and angled a roadbed away from the main on the correct alignment. I left a few ties around (the ones not in ballast I made square, not "profile") and also made indentations in the ballast where other ties had been removed. Two trestle bents with no bridge on them cross a creek. Finally, there is a recently paved road crossing where the highway department just paved over the track. The dark rust rails are cut off a few scale feet either side of the pavement. There are two cut-off wood posts to simulate former crossbuck locations. I model the late 1970s when disused and taken-up track was becoming more common.

I still really like coming back to these videos. I like this layout and really want to build something like this once I "finish" my small but slightly larger scale size N scale layout.

Ive been working on my track plan for 7 months, and have changed it many times. Thanks for the update on your layout. It looks like its coming along nicely

Thanks. On my main layout, I've been working the track plan a couple of years, and construction is underway. I'm STILL making changes to the track plan. And probably will until it comes down!

There are some similarities, but it's not intentional. And the layout it not intended to be a switching puzzle, really. I'm much more into prototypical switching than having a puzzle for puzzle's sake.But I guess we'll see when I get to the operations stage!

the time saver I think has less switches
