@linterna guitar :\ that's just my preference which i can't do anything about, guitar is my first instrument actually, but unfortunately i'm not into it in jazz (specifically electric, i love acoustics in gypsy and bossa nova) for some reason, even tho i like it in other ganres, no need to be a dick about it

+contactkeithstack If you re-arrange them to groups of descending and ascending notes, they look like this: a: A,Bb,C,Db - 3,4,5,6b d: C,B,G, - 5,5b,2 d: Bb,Ab,Eb - 4,2b,7b d: Gb,F,Db - 2b,1,6b a: Ab,F,G - 2b,1,2 The notes that sound funny are the ones that are out of the blues scale, in the F-natural scale. It makes it sound like he's playing above key almost. It's a dissonant set based on the Phrygian dominant Scale (with a variation 5b,) rather than blues. (i.e 1 2b 3 4 5 6b 7b). He plays it over an (I'm simplifying the changes) Fmaj7 to F(aug) (F,A,C#) and F7+5. There's something similar at 7:37.
@GerryLSmith
@GerryLSmith 8 жыл бұрын
Phrygian dominant is a nice idea, I think it can sound great in a blues, but tends to fit more naturally than this line imho, albeit with a 'Gypsy' sound to it. He's got some b3s you've written as b2s, I think it's more a case of playing maj/min blues scale with some flattened 6s and flat 9s. Or am I wrong and it's common to flatten the 3rd of Phrygian dominant and still regard it as that? I usually don't like 'too many notes' in a blues but Joel being the master that he is doesn't over do it and sounds great of course. Igor I agree about scales, and patterns etc, etc, but it's sure fun to try to figure out sometimes..! (And helps me to internalize something cool).

+Murilo 'morello' (Cunha) Yep, he's a very talented guitarist, he definitely knows a thing or two about playing guitar, but he needs to turn the ego down. The point of comping is to let the soloist stand out and open up the possibilities for him. I don't think it happens here. I don't think he leaves enough space for the solo. I think the plays way too much and restricts the soloist. Maybe this isn't representative of his usual playing, I was solely referring to this video.

+vecernicek2 about the comping, in that super informal jam, where the owner of the bar is playing till i understood, i think the oposite, at the end of the sax solo, the guitar dude brings it, and pushes the band to the cuminant point where frahm and all wanted to go ending a solo. yeah you have no problem with me, your problem is problem with the guitarplayer in the video, that kicked all the asses playing one of the btfl solos we ever heard.
