This week in the shop, we dive deep into the heart of customization and problem-solving as we take on a challenging project for ‪@StreetRacingChannel‬"s Camaro. Starting with the ambitious plan to upgrade the front end with new long travel struts, we hit an unexpected snag right out of the gate. The initial set that Billy had sent us threw a wrench in our plans, potentially leaving us without the ability to reattach the hood due to their size.
Not ones to back down from a challenge, we explored alternative solutions, testing out a smaller set for a mock-up. However, our goal wasn't just to make it fit; we were determined to get the full 6.5 inches of travel we had originally set out for. That's where our friends at Mensor Motorsports come into play. With their expertise, they agreed to craft a custom set of long travel struts, perfectly sized to meet our needs without compromising the 6.5 inches of travel.

It's crazy how much chassis set up I have learned from racing RC cars. It's literally the exact same thing. Once I got into big cars I understood so fast. Get your kids into Rc folks!

I’ll tell you one thing the stuff i learnt from rc cars was hell of alot easier to take to big cars than taking the stuff i knew about the big cars before hand to rc

I totally agree!!! And if ya notice most drag racing and track racing guys always have an rc tucked away somewhere in the house or shop!!? And the biggest thing rc racing helps with is suspension settings on the big versions.. getting that rate, bound and rebound set correctly and balanced makes the traction possible..

This is badass! It’s amazing to watch what you guys can do, the level of engineering and fabrication that goes into your work is unmatched. So glad Billy has let you guys do your thing with the chassis, this car is going to be a rocket 🚀 and it will be fun to watch the progression. Tin Soldiers and SRC is such a cool collab and even more, a genuine friendship. It will be nice to see Billy in a car that will be competitive again and capable of bringing home the 🏆💵💵

I'm here because of SRC, Billy is an awesome guy! Y'all are awesome, great job on what y'all are doing for him. I was impressed with the Nova, I think the Camaro will be even more impressive! I can't wait to see how well he does with this mean machine, light weight, big engine and I imagine twin turbos, nitrous. Sounds pretty mean to me! Let's go Billy!!! 🤘😝🏁

Thanks for paying this video guys. Great stuff. I wish I could afford to have Brad build my truck. Even Billy who is no slouch on getting cars to go fast is having his Camaro set up at TSR. I have to ask Billy how he got his leaf spring truck to leave so hard and straight. I get the cal-tracks and lock up the frame but there must be more. Billy is a talented guy Hope you all figured out the struts. I’m working on a 49 ford f1 now that sits on a fat man chassis , with a 9” and 4 link. Im setting up the instant center now with advice from the Tin Soldier Racing video that y’all helped so many of us with. Rest easy guys when I get to progress my 2000 s-10 I will be going to you all for parts to get it hooking up and going fast. I wish it was a square nose s-10 like Billy’s but With help from guys that know a lot more than me ,Maybe the 2000 year chassis is better?? I do see guys putting a lot of coin into s-10’s and they seem to come up short,I worry if I should look for a short wheel base car?

@1:59 that spring spacer is used if you wanna run dual rate springs. Common in long travel off road vehicles. I run a 550lb 14 inch spring on top and a 350lb 12 inch spring on bottom, on a 12 inch stroke shock.

6:55 what a fine looking Buick! I did NOT expect that to come rolling in... Wish i wasn't poor... Im just a displaced eastern Kentucky man stuck in Detroit and life bit me hard for the last 25 of my 54 years. All i really want out of life is for my first car, my 70 442 Olds to run 8.50s with a legit Olds engine. I forever dream of winning the lottery and dropping off the roller to Tin Soldier race cars and helping me out with the "stance". I know everything else will work once that is nailed.

If you make it wheee the shock cup is right above the lower ball joint you can probably get up to 9 inches of travel! But you’d have to relocate the spindle out slightly or run smaller length lower control arms.

I used a TRZ Fox Body spindle with an AFCO Foxbody strut in a 5th Gen Camaro to have alot of travel. Not sure if it would fit into a 1st Gen Camaro though.

U just can't put the lca taps anywhere bro. Everything has to be in line n work together thru the whole travel of the struts n the upper n lower control arms homie. Shiiii can't be binding up n stuff bcuz the stuff won't work on the track n billy will be fighting the car to go down track straight n all.

lol you can do like the dirt late model guys , have a through rod strut for more travel, they figured out how to have the shaft pass through the body of the shock part for more travel and keep it sealed on both ends.

I was thinking to put a spring cup in the lower arm to absorb some of the length your struggling with. Then I see it’s a 7 day old video. Hey maybe on future builds when the problem arises. I bet you can’t loose much more than 2” as when the cars land from wheelies the spring cup in the lower arm may come into track or road contact.

We haven't see much from Billy's nova after its debut. A hand full of races and thats it. Maybe hes done with the Nova. This is going to be a different beast.

We'll see if a light bulb went off in his head after sick week about what to do with the Nova, since it's got the cage, engine, steel and should alrrady have provision for cooling etc. for a class like ultimate iron or whatever.

Would it be possible to run the shock/strut parallel with the top frame tube and use a solid rod on a pivot to actuate it? So spindle to an actuator rod, rod to a pivot mounted to the upper frame tube, and then pivot to the shock.

Everyone has been telling Turbo John to put long travel struts on the front of the Saturn he is currently driving. This video shows what John has been telling everyone. It’s not a simple and definitely not a cheap mod.
