Update Dec 5 2020: GT5 Plans (TB and TMB models) now available@: www.elamscafeboutique.com/shop
To build your own amp, first you must cut out your own chassis. I used basic tools to cut the holes for this chassis. A drill, three clamps, forstner bits, files and scrap wood is all you need. Cheers

I really appreciate your work and videos. The quiet, mild, dry humor combined with crazy levels of precision and random animals (on your guitar vids) really speaks to me. Not to mention the absolutely stunning self sufficiency and making. Thank you.

This going to be great! I realy, realy looking forward to this! Your previous works are truly mindblowing. I guess i am not the only one that watched them all several times. But take all the time You need to make them.

Beautiful work Geoff. I've got a selection of step bits (unibits) that I use for electrical work that might do the trick. They're designed for use on thin sheet metal junction boxes

Welldone indeed - you really give us the hints and bits we need to be successfull. Many thanks - you know what - just so beeing as handy as all this is - they made it once to the moon. Long time gone - pitty. Most modern stuff today wouldn't make it out there I guess.

Thanks Joseph, I certainly agree with you re quality these days. Once they used to build things to last, improving on each aspect over time. Now, they built things purposefully not to last. If it is quality, they will purposely make sure it fails so that it can be replaced...for the dollar. Its beyond sad indeed. Thanks and have a great day!!

Very nice technique. I have seen a lot of butchered chassis and the use of templates I think should improve hole alignment, blowout and even keeping the metal un-stressed and flat. Good job. Cheers, - Eddy

I use 1/2" MDF and make templates for effect pedals that I build more than once. You can use a nail and a hammer to punch a dent into the metal so the bit doesn't wonder.

Deburring the holes and cutouts on the metal chassis I would suggest using a Pen Style Deburring Tool.

Love it! If you had actually used the chainsaw for cutting out the template, that would have been epic! \m/

I'm about done making the templates, the 18mm holes I still have to find a solution for though, I think I'll end up with a forstner bit too, it looks pretty good. I do have a 22mm forstner bit already but that's not right

What program did you use to create your templates and wire diagrams?

Great work but a template seems a bit much for those looking to build a "1 off" amp... i can completwly understand if you are looking to ptoduce a run of amplifiers however.

I have problems to drill straight holes by keeping drill in hand. Maybe some drill stand will be helpfull next time. BTW I think wood is more pleasant material to work in in the end. Excellen videos and channel BTW :)

I was wondering what program you use to do your templates? I've tried looking at some free CAD softwares I found online but they all seem to be aimed at actual engineers and such and aren't intuitive or quick to learn at all. DIYLC seems ok for actual turret board layout but without easily being able to add parts it isn't so great for chassic hardware layout. Any recommendations? I'm about to go old school and measure/draw by hand lol.
@elams1894
@elams1894 2 жыл бұрын
I use Google Draw, in the Google Drive system. Its by far the easiest to use for 2D layout stuff (and I've used most), perfect for chassis layouts. I cut out my component photos with photoshop then easily insert into Google Draw. I may do a video one day.

Hey! Bought the plans and got a follow up question: The transformers are quite pricey and only from the US; any recommendations on cheaper and from other parts of the world (preferrably EU) or what specs should they have, if I source my own?

Anything around 250 - 275 volts secondary centre tapped would work. Make sure it has the additional 6.3 volt secondary winding. 100 mv and above is perfect but you can get away with a bit less than that. Bigger is always better of course. I use power transformers out of old tube radios from the 50's. They work perfect and you can pick them up super cheaply. Cheers and all the best

What program are you using to create the templates? Im planning a build currently and want to use the same style chasiss just different size. Id love to find a program that helps with alignment and exact measurements

Best free program is Inkscape. It is the most accurate. I also use Google Draw. It's much simpler to use, however nowhere near as powerful.

Diesel/Turbo switch? Haha. What's up with that?
@elams1894
@elams1894 4 жыл бұрын
It a very sophisticated switch. When one activates the knob, not only is the magnetic field thrown into turbo mode, a small jet of NOS is injected into the vortex creating an induction process that is superluminal. at velocities exceeding that of light, the magnetic field vortex is forced back into counterspace at near infinite speed creating a previously unknown condition that I have called Mega Conduction. A state of complete and overwhelming tonal nirvana can only be obtained in the field attribute of Mega Conduction. You can fact check that in the encyclopedia of voodoo science.
