Smallest 5 Speed Lego technic gearbox?! Ultra compact transmission (+instructions)

This is up to now my smallest/simplest 5 speed gearbox.
It's not the strongest but very compact and fits in every moc.

A vacuum engine is VERY fast, this is why you need a gear reduction so that you have enough power to run the gearbox.

@@stupidshetproductions No, a vacuum engine is usually fast and weak. If you gear it down, its slow and strong. If you doesn't gear it down, the vacuum engine would probably not have enough power to run the gearbox properly...

Since you probably also need reverse anyway, you could handle both reverse and neutral via a separate gearbox.

@@SeanMirrsen I usually dont use reverse unless im making a motorized model, but i would probably use a DNR selector for the neutral. Thank for the suggestion

@@LucasDynamics this was on Reddit the other day. Same size in proportion too. Only difference here is the one on Reddit is built with a slider motor to control the gears.

@@TheRealBmanswan A "remote switch" is cool, but it makes it way bigger and this one is for small mocs...

@@LucasDynamicsexcept it doesn't increase the size of the Moc to add the switch to it. It's also a very pointless function for Mocs without being remote controlled. It'll slip out of gear naturally on its own. Especially if you're on an incline of any sort. I should know I've built it before.

Have you ever heard how to calculate the tooth profile of a gear wheel? Lego did its calculations well. You kind of spoil them with your experiences. Yes, it demonstrates well the theoretical principle of changing gears between pinions, but if you apply torque, it's over with the teeth of the wheels.

Thank you for your detailed feedback! I used such gearbox for a long time, and the gears are like new... Of course, it's not ideal, but I am sure that you don't have to worry about your well engineered gears.
